Alright, I threw Wizard of Oz mp4 with AC3 audio up on my Plex server for now and tested it with the LG Plex app just to validate that it works at all. First MP4 I've tested so I just wanted to rule out issues with MP4 creation. I use CloneBD for that. So once the SHIELD decides to pick up the beta Plex version I can try it there, as well. With 7.23 I'm obviously getting HDR. Once 7.24 pushes to the thing it should show me DV. Then, as mentioned in the last couple posts, the fun begins with how we can maybe get some decent audio in this thing. One step at a time. Let's get DV working first. :)
CloneBD can do single layer remux ?

here, someone says it doesn't work. :(

I just checked the mediainfo for it. Looks like they slammed the second video track in there making it dual layer. That's an issue. I'll remake it with DVDFab.

However, that being said, I'm reading that thread and it doesn't look so promising. Maybe it's bugs in the beta....hopefully. Also, if they broke Netflix DV I'm going to be REALLY ugly.

the problem is that I dont think the single layer remux made with DVDFAB are right. yes they trigger DV on my x700, my Vizio TV and my LG TV but the x700 OSD is not showing DV like the dual layer file does. it only say HDR.
Also, DV profile 5 is not supposed to support HDR10 and those dvdfab single layer file plays in HDR10 with madVR.

I have some real DV profile 5 files (stranger things s03) and they play in SDR with messed up colors with madVR but show DV with my x700.

sorry if im not super clear, my english is not great.

Ok, well, if we can't get a clean DV source to play through the SHIELD then we have a larger problem. I don't particularly feel like rolling them by hand with the tools in this thread, either. This whole thing is academic for me because 1) I couldn't care less about DV on UHD rips because I use madvr on a 2070, 2) I have the UB820 to play the original DV if I ever wanted to. I just find this topic fascinating and it'd be neat to see it work. I bought the new SHIELD for DV, yes, but, for streaming services where I feel DV makes a HUGE impact. (I can't drive that through madvr without buying a $5k Envy and I'm not doing that). In any case I'm watching that thread now so if progress is made there I'll bite the bullet and make myself a proper single layer DV mp4 or go find a free demo one to play with. This thing was just released so I suspect it's going to improve over time.

P.S. Your English is quite good and I can perfectly understand what you're saying. :)

yeah, angel heart(crash) and life of pets 2(stutter) is a no go, I had to watch them in HDR10.
but I watched more than 40 DV LPCM movies with the X700 without issue. I have almost the same setup you have, I'm surprised that most of your DV remux freeze your player.
x700 ----> Denon AVR ----> C8

this is the cmd-line I used for all my remux:
maybe you already knew this, but I gave Angel Heart another shot, I mp4boxed in just the commentary ac3 track, and the dual layer mp4 plays smoothly over x700. that got me excited for a moment, then I mp4boxed in the converted lpcm, kaput...it still won't play, but it's not the "typical freeze-of-death", the screen froze but I was able and pull back to the previous menu. I don't know what conclusions can be drawn from these observations...

oh really. I'm pretty sure that I tried that too and it still refused to play. And Yes I think I was also able to stop the video.
might give this movie another try then. :)

BTW, I have Don't look now in DV/AC3, and it plays fine. so it could be the same issue.

Also still waiting for a player which supports a format which can carry HD-audio (e.g. LPCM inside mp4-container) and DV, I hope the new Shield will make it possible.
Or find a way to mux ac3+/truehd + atmos into a mp4 container.

Now something else.. I heard there's a two kinds of DV dual-layer movies?
Those which only have DV metadata in the second layer and those with a full 1080p video track, is this true?
If yes, can someone recommend me a DV movie which has a full video track? (or a list perhaps).

There is 2 kinds of DV.
FEL : Full Enhancement Layer
MEL : Minimal Enhancement Layer

from: https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologie ... rkflow.pdf
The base layer essence is a 10-bit video bitstream of the full picture element with HDR10
standards that enables compatibility with HDR10 devices.

The enhancement layer essence is a 10-bit video bitstream that carries the residual between the
mezzanine source and the base layer and the dynamic metadata for Dolby Vision.
• An enhancement layer that carries a residual signal equal to zero, that is, the decoder does not
need to process the residual signal, is called minimum enhancement layer (MEL).
• If the enhancement layer carries a residual signal not equal to zero, it is called full
enhancement layer (FEL).

5.2.1.1 MEL recommendations
In the following base layer and MEL bitrate allocation recommendations, the ratio between base layer and
MEL are fixed and scaled linearly based on the total bitrate target.
• Bitrate ratio: (98% base layer and 2% MEL) to (99.5% base layer and 0.5% MEL)
• Recommended defaults for a total 100 Mbps:
o Base layer: 99.5 Mbps
o MEL: 0.5 Mbps
• Recommended defaults for a total 50 Mbps:
o Base layer: 49.75 Mbps
o MEL: 0.25 Mbps

5.2.1.2 FEL recommendation
In the following base layer and FEL bitrate allocation recommendations, the ratio between base layer and
FEL are fixed and scaled linearly based on the total bitrate target.
• Bitrate ratio: (80% base layer and 20% FEL) to (95% base layer and 5% FEL)
• Recommended defaults for a total 100 Mbps:
o Base layer: 85 Mbps
o FEL: 15 Mbps
• Recommended defaults for a total 50 Mbps:
o Base layer: 42 Mbps
o FEL: 8 Mbps

FYI, Dolby Vision wasn't actually enabled in the beta release. Should be fixed now.

Late to the party here, so please have patience with me as I am trying to get caught up. Before investing too much time into research, I figured I would ask those of you who have been working to get the Dolby Vision and Atmos combination to work consistently using something like Plex:

Would you consider it worth the effort to setup Plex via an HTPC rather than play UHD disc backups via an Oppo connected to an external hard drive (which is what I've been doing and has been working flawlessly)? The disc backup/Oppo method is very easy and consistent, but obviously the interface of the Oppo isn't the best, and having to unplug/plug in several different external hard drives into the Oppo isn't the most ideal way to browse a movie collection :|

mmm I just tried the latest version and I still get both HDR10 & DV in profile 5 which i think, can't be right.
How come your MediaInfo is different? is it up to date? mine is the latest version.
Is it because I use the trial version of DVDFAB ?

and btw your audio is lossy dts, you still need mp4box to add lossless audio.

My LG OLLED tv recognized it as Dolby Vision.

as I said here: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 690#p80363
it's not just about triggering DV.
