LG BP60NB10

Post by ab121011 »

Hello,

I have had two LGWH16NS40’s die about 1-2 years into use. Luckily with my last purchase I got an extended warranty. I was looking to try a different drive and seem to have selected wrong after reviewing the recommended Friendly UHD Drives.

I picked up the BP60NB10 at Microcenter for $100 after a price match. It has come with REV 1.01 and I am worried I will be out of luck when it comes to ripping UHD. I have received two errors when trying to use the modified ASUS tool to change to the 1.00 MK firmware recommended in the main post. I got ERROR 4 on my desktop and ERROR 3 on my laptop.

I understand the REV 1.01 may disable my ability to make changes. If someone could inform me if I am out of luck with this particular drive or if I am making a mistake in my process of changing the firmware.

Thanks in Advance!

Yep, at the moment we are unable to downgrade from 1.01. I suggest you contact Mike Admin and see if he can assist in extracting the drive firmware.

Keep us posted.

Thanks
Cheers :D

McNuts I thought this was the breakthrough that was brought to us by you not two months ago. The ability to flash the BP60NB10.

That allowed the BP60NB10 with 1.00 to be flashed to 1.00-MK. This obviously doesn't work for drives with 1.01 as I've now heard from 3 people that have tried to flash it, so I'd say that LG has somehow disabled downgrading in firmware 1.01.

If you have a BP60NB10 with 1.01, do you want to give it a try?
Cheers :D

I don't, but if one comes across my desk I will try it.

It should be noted that a BP60NB10 is a poor substitute for a BU40 in a Vantec case, IMHO :-)

I find it basically the same. It has a nice enclosure and rips at the same speed as the BU40N.

The plastic case doesn't bother me and you can always get a USB 3.0 cable for a few dollars.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I’m just going to return this drive and pick something else for now.

Is it possible to get a note added to the Recommended UHD Drive sticky post that Rev 1.01 is not compatible at this time?

I'm sorry all the replies consisted of Marty and I going back and forth. Returning it and getting something else sounds like a good plan. Check out the BU40N in the Vantec enclosure :-)

I don’t mind the back and forth. Hoping I might learn a little.

Returned with no issues.

Ended up going with the Asus BW-16D1HT. Drive came with Revision 3.10. I was able to flash to 3.10mk without any trouble. The drive seems kinda slow all around at this point. It seems to take a while for the drive to recognize the UHD Disc I currently have available. I’m currently about an hour into ripping Spider-Man Far From Home. Seems to be stuck at 8.9M/s [2.0x].

Are there any other my firmware’s that I can flash to in hopes of speeding this drive up?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

nothing is going to speed it up
the drive slows down when it has trouble reading the disk
clean the disk you should see about an 8x peak speed with the asus but the average read speed is probably 4.5-6x mid 3xs in the beginning and end

I’ll take what I got then. Thanks for the quick reply.

Resurrecting a couple month old thread. I just got a BP60NB10 1.00. Am wondering how I flash it. I’ve done internals no problem. But the app just hangs at 0%.

Is there some trick with slim externals you need to do?

Thank you in advance for any insights.
