Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I've read all 44 pages of this thread. Wouldn't it just be best for someone to code an ISO player for the popular TVs? LG, Sony, etc...? And no I don't have the knowledge myself but it can't be that hard for someone with the skills. I see so many crap apps on my LD OLED, why can't someone just make an ISO playback app?
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Define "someone". And how you plan on getting said app onto those devices. Dolby could just as easily create an MKV spec for Dolby Vision, but, here we are....without one. They don't see any legit use cases for ISO or MKV, so, in order to protect the content of those who license their stuff, they don't....mp4 notwithstanding. This isn't about tech. It's about money.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I have read that LG has no intentions to introduce eARC for C8 series, which it not a big drama to me until we talk about Dolby Vision and lossless audio. But I have an eARC enabled A/V receiver, so that would be the perfect solution.
Update, it's even worse:

Hi Sinniboi, I want to watch exactly this movie, but you say that you have original DTS soundtracks, however I can only find bluray rips with Dolby TRUE-HD audio.Did you convert these soundtracks to DTS? Is this possible?SoNNiBoi wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 6:39 pmHi Smanet, i also played last time a bit with the tools ffmpeg, mp4muxer and mp4box. In the end I muxed a movie with DV and several (original) DTS-HD tracks in it and it works perfectly fine with my C8 (directly played). Look here:Smanet wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2019 10:19 am
I have a 5.1.4 speaker setup and I'm finding myself conflicted on the following:
1) Watch the backup with DV + LPCM 7.1 (converted from TrueHD)
2) Watch the backup with DV + DTS-MA (I believe this should work with MP4 but I haven't tested it. Or is it worth more to convert DTS-MA to LPCM instead of TrueHD, again if possible?)
3) Watch the backup without DV but with Atmos (is there any appreciable difference with HDR10? I have a LG C8)

No they are both lossless audio don't try and convert one into to the other different movies use different audio encoding leave it alone if you are getting true hd or dts ma/ Atmos / dtsx your getting the full quality audiojesper1994 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2019 12:56 pm

Hi Smanet, that sounds terrible. Maybe the pressure on LG is or was not high enough. But thanks for the informations...Smanet wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2019 9:23 pmI have read that LG has no intentions to introduce eARC for C8 series, which it not a big drama to me until we talk about Dolby Vision and lossless audio. Hi Jesper, you are right! The "original DTS soundtracks" seem to be re-encoded tracks. As you mention all UHD COMPLETE rips offer 'only' Dolby TRUE-HD audio. Unfortunately, I haven't found any detailed informations about available DTS sources like "Apocalypse.Now.1979.Redux.2160p.BluRay.REMUX.HEVC.DTS-HD.MA.TrueHD.7.1.Atmos-FGT" or "Apocalypse.Now.1979.Redux.UHD.US.BluRay.2160p.HEVC.DTSMA.DL.Remux-TvR"...jesper1994 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2019 12:56 pmHi Sinniboi, I want to watch exactly this movie, but you say that you have original DTS soundtracks, however I can only find bluray rips with Dolby TRUE-HD audio.Did you convert these soundtracks to DTS? Anyway, high quality DTS transcoding should work great with DTS-HD Master Audio Suite:

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
There's no guarantee on what I'm about to say, BUT, there is POTENTIALLY another Dolby Vision solution in our near future. This is 100% speculation on my part and I in NO way have ANY information that leads me to believe this is going to work.
Now that my disclaimer is out of the way, the new nVidia Shield Pro gets unleashed tomorrow (of which I intend to buy if I can find one locally else I'll have to order it) which will now support Dolby Vision. I will probably play around with mp4's streaming through Plex and see if that potentially works. I have strong doubts on this, but, it's at least a potential new solution that could maybe work. Not trying to get anyone's hopes up but I thought I'd point out that this is something new we may need to play with and see what works.

It doesn't work right now, is already been tested by some people. Best buy has sold it before the release date.

Oh well. Dolby vision really is a pain in the ass.

It looks like your issues with DTS-HD titles with the X700 was just random bad luck because I watched a lot of DTS-HD titles lately and they all played fine.
Quantum of Solace
Skyfall
Specter
Casino Royale
Red Heat (had to stop this one after 20min because the subs don't work with the x700)

I don't believe I have asked before, but does the X700 play also DTS:X or just DTS-HD? I'm still following how much it costs and it could be something interesting to buy during black Friday (if discounted).RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 2:14 pm@ superfans124

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
nop, the x700 does not support DTS:X / DTS-HD / DTS in a mp4 container. It doesnt even say unsupported format, there's just no audio.
We have to convert everything to LPCM.
btw there is some great deals on refurbished units on amazon. only 129$

That new shield looks amazing spec-wise. I doubt it will play double layer DV. But it has gigabit ethernet and can passthrough lossless so that's a big plus over the 100Mbit X700 I am using. Highly interested if it can play the DV rips.

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
single-layer-only very likely. there's no legitimate reason for Nvidia to even ask Dolby for dual-layer capability "why would you need dual-layer vp7 DV profile capability when you don't even play Blu-ray disc? Single-layer-DV profile is sufficient for streaming web contents as a streaming device. Unless, what are you trying to pull here? just pulling out of my a$$, it's probably gonna be single-layer-DV, and we will have to wait for MrMC to update its android app for the new Shield since it already has that single-layer-DV capability on IOS (so does infuse, but infuse isn't crossing over to Android)
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
That would be nice if they can add even single layer support. Mine arrives tomorrow so I'll get to play around with it. But as you said, unless they plan on hooking up a USB external official drive (LMAO) dual layer support isn't likely.
