How can i get the name of the single episodes of a TV show?

Post by JackO »

Hello,
I have a common problem when i want to rip TV shows from DVD/BD.

I don't know which episode is which. Meaning, i don't know if the first file is really the first episode.
This especially a problem when I want to rip a show i havn't seen yet.
Another problem is that sometimes, the "behind the scene" - stuff has the exact same size as a regular episode.

I really don't know what to do beside just hope that they are in the right order.

As you highlight each episode file in the left window, the Title information is displayed in the Info window on the right. You will see "Source file name".

NORMALLY, even if the episodes are "out of order" in the left window, the source file name will progress upwards to match the episode's order.

Example, you can have source names 00009.mpls through 00016.mpls that are long enough to be episodes. 00009.mpls will be the first episode on the disk, 00016.mpls will be the last.

Ah, good to know.
So "Source File name" is always mached with the episode? For example:
Episode one is the last file on the DVD, will it also have "00009.mpls"?

(Sorry for the "double check" but im new and not even close to being an expert)

And how can i tell the "episode - file" and the "bonus - file" appart?
In Season 5 of the Tv show "chuck" they are more episode sized files than episodes.
I can't just open the files and watzch the episode bcs I'm not at season 5 yet)

Thanks for the information. Good to know.

So the "Sorce file name" is alwys a way to name the episodes in the right order?
For example:
The fist episode is the last episode sized file on the dvd. Is it still 00009.mpls
(or the lowest number in the episode sized files?)

Im sorry for double checking but im new and by no means an expert.

Is there a way I can tell the "bounus - files" and the "episode - files" apart? Even when they are the exact same size?
I have this problem in the fifth season of Chuck. There are more files than episodes.

The only 100% accurate way is to rip everything, and view enough of each episode to validate what it is, then rename the file as needed.

And yes, I've had to use that a lot, because Star Trek The Next Generation did not always follow the "source file name" convention.

But the source file name order works out maybe 95% of the time.

And DVDs use a somewhat different naming convention, using "Source title ID" instead of "Source file name".

ST:TNG was fairly easy to find out. I brought up the listing in Wikipedia and I would the file, go to the first chapter marker and the episode title would be shown after the opening credits are complete.

For all the DC superhero shows and Supernatural, they had production codes listed and you could find them at the very end of the episode but you have to be quick to freeze frame it or it's gone. If Wiki shows production codes, you are in luck for whatever series you're searching for.
