New blu-ray drive ?

Post by MVCurt » Tue Oct 08, 2019 2:13 pm

Hi,
For some unknown reason my old external Samsung blu-ray drive (SE-506) wont burn BD-R/RE properly anymore.
Can anyone suggest a good external reliable bluray drive? (dont think I will need a UHD drive)
A shop close by have one model for sale Hitachi-LG bp50nb40 but I have no idea if this one is a ok.
Any brand(s) that stands out as a good buy?
Thanks in advance.

Then why post this in the subforum clearly named UHD drives? Your post is more suited here:

Now, despite the following sticky post being in relation to UHD Drive support and flashing:

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=19634

It provides recommendation for drives that in the past couple of years have been deemed reliable, have become popular amongst the MakeMKV user base, and several can do what you are asking. On top of that, can be used for UHD in the future if you then decide to.

Lastly, Google is your friend. Literally thousands of articles out there comparing many drives in the market now for standard BD use/writing if UHD BDs are not your thing.

The LG BP50NB40 is an ok drive. If it is SVC: NB50 model, it can also be cross-flashed to BP60NB10 and read UHD discs if you ever decide you want to.
Cheers :D
