Does makemkv generate a mkv in your case? Or does it stop with an error message?
In my case it produced mkvs from UHDs, despite the Automatic
HK downloading is disabled or failed message.
I am a bit frightened that I have generated some not properly decoded mkv files....
Your fine it just can't decrypt new release movies.
Sdf is libredrive updates
And hk is hashedkeys with updated title support

I just grabbed a copy of Dunkirk (4K UHD) and it won't decrypt for me. I also tried dropping in the sdf.bin file, but I still get "Automatic SDF downloading is disabled or failed." and then "Automatic HK downloading is disabled or failed." before failing.
I guess we're SOL until this issue is fixed?

Having this exact same issue with MakeMKV failing to download the latest keys. Looks like it's trying to connect to hkdatastore.tk (which doesn't resolve to an IP).
Also verified I can download
https://www.makemkv.com/svq/sdf.bin without issues. Any ideas on how to manually package it inside the _private_data.tar? Simply copying it over doesn't seem to work.
That explains why I've not seen any updates to hashed keys all week.

I am now getting this error as well. Anybody have any idea how I can fix it? Older Blu Rays work just fine but new release UHDs don't. Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3 both give me this error

I've tried most of this as well and even when I download sdf.bin and restart I can't open older discs much less newer ones so I'm not sure it's just sdf.bin. I can also get to sdf.dat.gz although it doesn't help so DNS doesn't seem to be the problem. If sdf.bin is just a binary version of the text keys file why not just post an updated version of that the way it used to work?

What URL do you use to download the gz file?

This means that everything is fine, when makemkv starts producing a mkv?
It wouldn‘t start processing at all when it really would need informations from the non-downloadble config files?

yeah if you made an mkv or a decrypted full backup it is fine.
and correct it won't save the files if it cant decrypt the video if you try to save as an mkv it will say volume key unknown

I was asking because I was wondering if the problem might cause hic-ups or occasional stuttering in the output files.

no it wont that happens with subpar playback devices or if you got read/hasherrors in the file from a bad/dirty disk or defective drive

... that answer is a relieve.
So basically, this server access-error would result in obtaining no mkv at all, if updates keys were necessary for a given disc.
Thanks!

I also got the message “Automatic SDF Downloading is Disabled or Failed” but the 4K UHD ripping continued and was completed successfully. Hope no other problems occur. Using Asus BW16D-1HT Firmware 3.00 with MakeMKV version 1.14.3. Mac OS Mavericks.

Mike said it should be fixed in another thread.
