Can't get Ver 1.60 to work

Post by tony55 »

Have been using successive versions of MakeMKV without any problems. However, can't get 1.6 to work with anything. Doesn't even get to the second screen without going to fatal error. Tried it with DVD's BRs and stuff on my hard disk. Nothing works.
Deleted and reinstalled 1.6 three times without any success.

What OS are you using, what disc are you trying to open?

I installed v160 yesterday and it would not rip 4 DVD's in a row - I reinstalled v160 to no avail - v160 seems to be ripping fine at first but soon afterwards the countdown time remaining to the end of the rip starts advancing instead of declining

I finally uninstalled it and installed the previous v158 and it is working fine with anything I rip including the 4 DVD's that v160 would not rip

I'm sorry I don't have more detail - but since v158 worked fine I did not want to reinstall v160 knowing it has issues

I see on the forum there seems to be a lot of others having similar issues, especially with DVD's

Should I just wait for a possible fix to come in a new version? - If needed I can reinstall v160 and report any details needed, but it seems to be a shared issue with other forum members - please let me know how to procede with this first and only issue I've ever had with MakeMKV

btw - I did purchase a license a couple of weeks ago, if that calls for a differrent way/procedure in troubleshooting this or any issue

My operating sys is XP Home edition service pack 3
As I mentioned previously, I tried a variety of my disks. The failure usually happens
prior to the selection screen that lets you select the specifics for ripping.

And my OS is W7 Ult. 64 bit

The DVDs were 5th Element, Medicine Man, Cast Away and Dances with Wolves --- the disks are not damaged because they ripped fine with v158 from the same Opt./DVD drive

I get the same problem with any Blu Ray I try to open since I installed v1.60. I too am running Windows 7 64 Bit. I enabled log mode and this is all I get in the log file (this was from Prince of Persia):

Code: Select all

Debug log started at Fri Sep 24 02:23:25 2010 , written by MakeMKV v1.6.0 win(x64-release)
Using 524544KB for read cache.
001005:0000 MakeMKV v1.6.0 win(x64-release) started
001004:0000 Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as C:\Users\dolla/MakeMKV_log.txt
003007:0000 Using direct disc access mode
As you can see it doesn't get very far so there really isn't much in the log.

I already started a different post for this so if you want to see the the fatal error I have a picture of it in this post http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic ... atal#p7754

So far i have got the fatal error on 4 band of brothers discs, Robin Hood, and Prince Of Persia (All the discs I have tried recently). In the other post they mentioned to try to convert with makemkv straight from the blu ray itself ( I already had the Band of Brothers blu rays ripped to my hard drive when trying to convert them) but that didn't help still get the same fatal error message going from the hard drive or blu ray rom.

Obviously it has to be something with the new version since i never had this message ever before on previous versions. Then once i installed the new version the fatal error is all I get.

Anyone got a link to previous versions so I can install v1.58 until this issue with v1.60 is fixed? I notice the older versions are not available to download in the download section.

Luckily I had a previous version (1.5.4) saved. I uninstalled v1.6.0 and installed v1.5.4. Prince Of Persia converted to MKV with no issues at all.

It has always been my practice to install new versions to its own directory. Just in case the new version didn't work. Ver 1.6 was installed in MAKEMKV160. 1.58 was still in Directory MAKEMKV158 when I first tried 160. I tried various BRs and DVDs without any success. Finally, I removed 158 and 160. I re-installed 160 only and still no success. My log was the same as awtlaw.

Debug log started at Sat Sep 25 14:41:40 2010 , written by MakeMKV v1.6.0 win(x86-release)
Using 392448KB for read cache.
001005:0000 MakeMKV v1.6.0 win(x86-release) started
001004:0000 Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as C:\Documents and Settings\User/MakeMKV_log.txt
Application exited at Sat Sep 25 14:41:46 2010

I would be happy to send any info to support but since it doesn't work with anything what should I send? I have since re-installed 158 and once again it works fine. 160 is still in its directory and it still doesn't work.
