Application crash \ unknown volume key

Post by skiddy »

I've had two Blu-Ray discs recently that have caused issues, same behaviour.

On one machine - they cause the application to abort abnormally (when initially loading the disc contents...status transitions to Idle, and then crashes thereafter). No logs.

On a different machine, I get a message that the volume key is unknown, and a debug line in the logs.

Both discs are well, known and pretty old. Running the latest version.

Any ideas?

Thx.

If you have debug logging enabled (link to the FAQ below explains how), you should ALWAYS get some sort of log, even if you just open the program.

If MakeMKV does not know the key for a particular Bluray disk, it should create a file in your MakeMKV data directory that starts with MKB and ends in .tgz; do you see it there? If so, what is the full file name?

MKB_v19_<title>_C59A
MKB_v7_<title>_1BB2

Assuming that the title name is unimportant :)

No, the exact title isn't critical, but both AACS versions are "well known" to MakeMKV, so they normally won't give a "Volume key is unknown" error, unless there is a problem reading the directory area of the disk. And they certainly shouldn't crash MakeMKV.

Are there any system logs that expand upon the crash?

I can see the Application Hang logs in windows;

The program makemkv.exe version 1.14.5.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Other discs work fine, it's just these two that I've come across lately thay exhibit the same, repeatable behaviour.

My suggestion at this point is to gather the information asked for in the FAQ link in my signature, plus copy in the information from the Windows event, and send them to support@makemkv.com for Mike to look at. He will probably want additional information, but those are the basics to start a "real" support ticket. He will probably also want those two .tgz files, because they would have more information about the disk.
