Saving Private Ryan - UHD Steelbook - AACS host certificate revoked

#1 Post by riprunn » Tue Jul 16, 2019 11:14 pm

Before anyone comes in, yes, I've check ed this thread.

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 12&t=16883

When I insert Saving Private Ryan from the Best Buy Steelbook, it just spins up and down over and over. It doesn't do anything but spin up and down. Eventually (23 minutes later) I received this error.

Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
Failed to open disc

I've already cleaned the disc. The drive is good. I just ripped The Matrix 4k collection on it along with a bunch of other Blu-Ray discs. Here is the drive info. The disc reads and plays fine on both of my X800 players. Immediately after this disc, I put in the UHD of The Secret Life of Pets. It reads the disc perfectly, and rips it with no issue. Since it wont even open the disc, I can't get it to do a disc backup either.

In your MakeMKV data directory, you should have a file with a name that starts with MKB2 for this disk; have you sent that to svq@makemkv.com for analysis yet? The name of the file should have appeared in your Info window and (if debug is turned on) your log, and it will include the AACS version that was found on the disk.

If it was a "revocation", you would now have problems ripping older BDs.

There's no output file because I can't even get it to open the disc, let alone start a rip for the application to generate a file for it.

But, I never enabled debug mode. I'll give it a shot in the morning.

Follow up. Clean booted machine. Ripped a BD and four more UHD discs. Tried Private Ryan again.

It did it's spin up and down, and let me open the disc this time after some waiting. Then while selecting what I did or did not want, it just dropped out completely to the disc insert icon. Opened it again. Did the same thing while selecting.

So, The third time, I hammered arrow keys and space-bar to deselect all the foreign audio, but left every subtitle in because it would fail back if I took for then 5 seconds. It's now been ripping for 40 minutes, supposedly about 28 min left. 43/88 or something GB.

Looking around, I guess this ASUS drive has issues with 3 layer discs. I don't really find much on other drives either having or not having issues with 3 layer discs. Willing to buy another drive if there is one in particular that works without much fuss.

If it doesn't end up working, try ripping the disc to full folder back-up.
Cheers :D

Used to be gospel that the LG WH16NS40 had problems with triple layer discs which led to the ASUS becoming king of the hill (more reasons than that of course, like the ASUS is a shit ton faster). That particular drive may have issues but triple layer discs are the standard these days I think we'd be getting reports right left and crooked if something were up with the ASUS and triple layer discs.
You're doing a hell of a job trouble shooting this I'd be willing to lend you a brand new drive to see if you can narrow down the issue to the drive or the computer or just the newer version of aacs. Come to think of it I didn't even know there was a SPR steel, that's good shit. Awesome movie, and HUUUUGE file once ripped.

Thanks man. It ended up working, just took a LOT of babying for it. It's the exact same issue I got with John Wick 2 4k. I'm going to try that one again to see if I can get it to even read the disc and rip it.

The Revenant and Planet Earth II disc 2
were my problem children. Ended up
buying new copies of each after at least three months of insanity.

Example:

Well it’s been three days now since I attempted a rip of the same fucked up Revenant disc. I think I’ll try again today because I’ve got a feeling! LOL
