I don't have a BR drive available so I'm using a folder in windows 10 containing AACS / BDMV / CERTIFICATE

Is this normally an okay procedure?

You're missing a file that is generated by MakeMKV when ripping a backup. It's name is discatt.dat, and if you don't have it, you have to find a working volume key for the disk on internet, OR you need to use the original disk to create it.

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=17087&p=69984#p60530 has more information on creating the discatt.dat file yourself, but it does require access to a Bluray drive, preferably the one that created the backup you're working from.

And a BD drive would be a good investment, anyway. If you're not interested in UHD, there are a LOT of inexpensive USB and internal drives available.

If it matters, I got the files using my PS4 using an FTP mod to transfer the 3 main blu-ray folders and their subfolders etc.

There is a linux mod for PS4 - perhaps I could install makemkv on that and try to rip an image.

I intend to buy a drive to run some tests but the ps4 is all I have for now.

I intend to buy a drive to run some tests but the ps4 is all I have for now.

The problem is that you copied the still encrypted folders from the disc to a folder on your hard drive. Now there is no way to obtain the Volume ID from your folder.

You need to either supply MakeMKV a VUK for that disc or allow MakeMKV to read the disc directly so it can extract the Volume ID from the disc and calculate the VUK.

Is it possible to connect the PS4 to the PC and use it like a normal optical drive? Probably not....
