Catalina and Gatekeeper

#1 Post by Razor » Tue Jun 04, 2019 6:23 pm

So is MakeMKV going to fall under the requirements of having a signed certificate from Apple to work with Catalina? I don't see Apple granting that one...

Because of the nature of the software.

Using Catalina Developer Beta 3 and MakeMKV 1.14.4 things seem to work just fine... I can RIP both DVDs and Blu-Rays.

I got a popup stating it needs to be updated by developer (v1.14.4).
I went to System Prefs > Security & Privacy > General > Open Anyway (button) and confirmed I wanted to open MakeMKV v1.14.4 anyway. All good.

Running developer beta 7 of macOS Catalina
Erased and reinstalled from Time Machine backup
During the ™ Bakup restore I saw a message that some items could not be restored to /private/var

Now, I told the OS to open MakeMKV v1.14.4 anyway and get a msg, "Application failed to initialize"

Mike any official word on whether or not you'll need a certificate?

This week, Apple announced (https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=12232019a)[emphasis added]:
In June, we announced that all Mac software distributed outside the Mac App Store must be notarized by Apple in order to run by default on macOS Catalina. In September, we temporarily adjusted the notarization prerequisites to make this transition easier and to protect users on macOS Catalina who continue to use older versions of software. Starting February 3, 2020, all submitted software must meet the original notarization prerequisites.
Any plans to get MakeMVK notarized (or added to the App Store)?
