Donpablo80 where is the compression mode in dvdfab?

I use the trial and have only 3 attempts and i used 2

1º time I used the Passtrought MP4 and create a MP4 with dual layer DV, the 2º attempt I used the MP4 Dolby Vision and is very very rare, it takes long time and is a Passtrought too.

Where is the option in the menu what do you say?
I'm in the exact same boat as you, trial version as well..
I ran my bdmv folder through uhd ripper and did the mp4.dolbyvision passthrough which gave me the same dual layer file mp4muxer would. I can't seem to make a single layer file though. Donpablo80 said it has to be compressed, but when I go to advanced settings and uncheck Copy Video the few video quality toggles it has are all crazy compression, like 19887kbps :/ the Bits/Pixel slider is greyed out so I can't up the quality any higher. perhaps that's a benefit of the paid version?

I used now the 3 attempts and nothing, the trial expired and nothing of compression mode and 1 layer in DV.

The program in trial version is like the can you purcharse but limited for 3 attempts only.

It can convert the video to a small file size if uncheck the "Copy Video" option in the Advanced Settings, BUT I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU. The max video bitrate is 19887kbps, and the DVDFab service told me that they will fix the problem in next new version. I used the video passthrough for now, and it played back well on my LG Dolby Vision TV. good luck

Go to Ripper and then go to the upper left blue button where you can choose a format. Only check the Dolby Vision box, so not passthrough or the others. you see a mp4 Dolby vision tv icon, use that one. Now load the blu-ray and go to advanced settings, use customized video quality and put the slider all the way to the right. For encoding method i use high quality encoding.

The process takes about 45 minutes on my i7, ssd, 16gb ram and GTX 1060 6gb

Too late for my, the trial has expired

I hope Grencola can do it, and if possible he put images of the menus.

Donpablo80, I did exactly this. As I said the slider is greyed out and will not budge. Which version are you using? 11.0.3.4 or 11.0.3.3? I'm using 3.4 and perhaps the latest update broke that feature, hence the team telling hepe9 they will fix it in the next update. If I choose other profiles I can move the slider, just not with dolby vision.

Oh yes, i think the greyed out slider is a bug. If you press ok en than go back the slider is not greyed out anymore

I was able to get the slider working but it's still fairly low and get a 46GB output file from a 80+ GB input file. This solution for me is a no-go. I'll stick with MP4 passthrough and 5.1 1.5MBit audio or HDR + Atmos and lossless for now. The titles I would want everything I can just buy.

Until a straightforward method comes out (other than Oppo, of course) I am happy with the two compromises.

Can you type a larger number into the Bit Rate input box? like 80000 instead of 50000?

Nope, defaults to the max of 50,000. If anybody else has more luck, please share. But a 30GB hit (subtract the lossless audio, still at least 20GB) is not something I am comfortable with. I rather get lossy Atmos over ultra-compressed DV. But if anybody has more info, please share.

Hi tango306,

Read your discussion with Grencola...
I'm having trouble creating good mp4 from mkv. Been reading on this forum for that and it's hard ignore the discussion :P
...I was wondering why u think original UHD Dolby Vision Blu-ray discs are 12-bit? Or did I misunderstood?
A few months ago (when DV profiles was being discussed) I found this pdf from Dolby Laboratories, maybe u find this interesting:

https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologie ... levels.pdf

Nowhere in this file is 12-bit mentioned... Look at table 1 at page 9, only 10-bit HEVC is being used in DV profiles.
Hi sm0ke83,
You are not missing anything. In fact, you're right. I've been searching and digging for the last couple of days. Thanks for the link.

A few facts I've found and learned.

1. 4K UHD Blurays use H.265 HEVC Main 10 profile. H.265 HEVC Main 10 supports up to 10-bit. (No 12-bit support)

2. On 4K UHD Bluray disc supporting Dolby Vision, both base layer and DV enhancement layer are encoded in H.265 HEVC Main 10. This basically means they all are 10-bit.

3. Dolby Vision Profile 7 (dual layer) is used in 4K UHD Bluray and Dolby Vision Profile 5 (single layer) is used for iTunes and Netflix 4K streaming.

4. Dolby Vision may supports up to 12-bit color depth and 10,000 nits of peak luminance. However, this "up to" specifications are to future proof their tech. Currently, all DV supported media in consumer market are in 10-bit color depth.
Dolby Labs own DV demo files are encoded in H.265 HEVC Main 10 and are in fact in 10-bit color depth.

5. What Oppo-203 player is doing when 4K UHD Dolby Vision disc is played is padding 10-bit into 12-bit container. I guess this mislead-ed many people (including myself). And lots of 4K Bluray title review sites stating Dolby Vision Bluray titles having 12-bit color are flat out misinformed.

Edit: typo.
I am quoting myself to correct misinformation.

Grencola and sm0ke83,
After I posted above, I kept on reading about Dolby Vision. And learned that it actually is 12-bit.
At the encoder stage level, the 12-bit Dolby Vision signal is splitted into a base layer and an enhancement layer. At the decoder stage level, the 12-bit Dolby Vision is recombined. Dolby has patented this. https://patents.google.com/patent/US20140050271
That's how Dolby Vision Profile 7 (dual layer) works to split and re-combine 12-bit color data.

Contrary to dual layer DV Profile 7 on 4K UHD Blu-ray discs, streaming services such as iTunes and Netflix who are based on DV Profile 5 (single layer) are in fact in 10-bit color depth.

My first post in this thread started with a question. It was this comment/post in reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comment ... dium=web2x
Oppo-203 reporting 10-bit video output (instead of 12-bit) when muxed MP4 DV file is played.
This is not to say that there's something wrong muxed MP4's DV stream. I think Dolby Vision either works or doesn't work. It may be Oppo 203 player reporting false info when reading (and outputting) dual layer DV streams from MP4 container. More investigation is needed.

The problem here, is not all have a player can read a dual layer DV.

So DVDFab is not a solution, i cant understand why compressed instead of give us a DV Single Layer without compression :(

Thank for your help

Yes, i encoded blackkklansman that have a original video bitrate of 67Mb, the encoded file have a bitrate of 48Mb, that's a lot of loss. I just mailed DVDFab if future updates will allow higher bitrates.

I dont know why, we want just enconde the original bitrate with single layer DV, we dont want compression

If they reply to you please tell us

The ideal would be a profile with mp4 dolby vision passtrough in a single layer DV, if they can compressed, they can do this too
