So I have an older LG WH12LS30 Blu-ray Drive that I got from a friend a long time ago, and have been using it to rip my BD movies with MKV for awhile now. I just recently heard about LibreDrive, however this is what I see on my drive info:
Code: Select all
Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH12LS30
Revision: 1.02
Serial number: K9JACNE0729
Firmware date: 2013-11-06 12:34:56
Highest AACS version: 66
Disc Information
Label: STAR_TREK_S2D3
Timestamp: 2010-01-05 15:27:41
Data capacity: 43.89 Gb
Since I don't see anything mentioning LibreDrive does that mean mine doesn't support it? Or am I missing something? I even upgraded from FW ver 1.00 to 1.02 this evening to see if that would help.
Thanks!

Your drive was built in 2013 - it won't have UHD capability (nothing older than mid-2015 can do UHD) and its chip set was not recognized as being compatible with LD.

Cool. That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure.
Thanks!

That means that MakeMKV knows nothing about this drive - which is strange. Please make sure that you have a setting "allow contacting web server for updates" enabled. If you still see no LibreDrive info, please send me all files named dump_SD_xxxxx.tgz from MakeMKV data directory (if any) to
support@makemkv.com. Thanks!

No, that drive is too old for “UHD friendliness”. It will NOT have the internal hardware required for reading UHD BDs.
Libredrive compatibility and UHD Friendliness can be separate. One does not require the other as they have separate functions.
This thread can be of some help as well:

This drive won't read UHD, but this drive can be made LibreDrive-compatible. This has some benefits for regular blu-ray as well. Please do send all dump_SD_xxxx.tgz files from MakeMKV data directory to
support@makemkv.com .

I also own a WH12LS39 and now read on this thread that it could be made LibreDrive-compatible but couldn't find more info about how to do it on the forum.
Dont need UHD capability yet, so the drive would still be ok for me as long as I could get LibreDrive on it.
Could you point in the right direction?

Drive too old. It will never be UHD-capable. And probably not LibreDrive capable.
Note that UHD capability is not a prerequisite for LD to be of benefit, but the older the drive, the less likely there will be LD-capable firmware available.

Hmm, I searched the LG support pages - there is a firmware update to 1.03 available, which might make the drive similar to conrailguy's drive above in terms of firmware version and age.
Revision: 1.03
...
Firmware date: 2013-11-06 12:34:56
I will do the update and post the result when it's done.
UHD support isn't that important to me yet, I don't have a single UHD, although that might change

This is an ancient drive. But still, LD support for these will be enabled soon (obviously for blu-ray only).

Thank you for the info, that's really good news!
I like ancient things
I will stick to the drive and wait for LD support
