List of BluRay with forced subtitles (version 2)

Post by nfazz » Thu Feb 18, 2010 3:16 pm

Angels and Demons
Iron Man
District 9
Apocalypto
Seven Pounds
Don't Mess with the Zohan - very limited forced subs, essentially when ever he uses his spy goggles
Gran Torino - The subs are not forced, but there's actually a separate track (track 6) with just the foreign language sections

This is a compiled list from multiple contributors. Not all have been verified by me. Please contribute by posting to this thread. Post only the name of the movie and relevant comments.

Kill Bill Volume 1 (separate track)
Kill Bill Volume 2 (separate track)
The Godfather
The Godfather part II
Apocalypto ( separate track)

Separate tracks are essentially the same as forced subtitles. Both do not show up after the rip is finished. It is just way more annoying when its a separate track. You can't use the "forced only" option because the subtitle track will not get ripped.

All verified. Just ripped to Blu-ray.

The following have subtitles that are needed for various different streams. But are NOT forced.

What I mean by that. Is there are several instances of foriegn speach dialog where there is no subtitles shown. Yet if you turn on the normal english subtitles, it will show the foriegn language translation in the subtitles of that scene & what was being said.

Adoration
Pandorum

The following Foriegn movies must have subtitles turned on if you wish to know what is going on as the audio track is NOT in english and a english audio track is NOT provided.

Sleep Dealer
Gomorrah

TGC/WTC

Here's another one:

2012 - Lots of forced subs. The latest makemkv splits these out as track #9.

This list is maintained by a variety of people and is quite comprehensive.

That google spreadsheet is terrific, but is it BluRay specific?

Also, how does one contribute or become a part of the group?

Thanks,
Nick

2 more:

King Arthur
Ronin

Same question about the google spreadsheet. Is that Bluray only or DVD?

It was, although I sense recently someone has made updates with DVDs that have forced subs. In any case if you see it on the list it's a good idea to double check before you makemkv. Sometimes the 'forced' subs are in fact a completely seperate sub track that doesn't have the forced flag set in the PGS.

If in doubt, rip all the english tracks and work it out after, you can always push it through mkvmerge to remove the tracks that weren't what you needed. Beats going back and ripping it again because you are missing 2 mins of subtitles.

Is there any way to rip the subs for Gran Torino and have them show up in the MKV? I can't seem to get it to work with MakeMKV. I'm confused what this whole forced subtitle thing means, and does it mean they cannot be ripped at all?
