John Q fails -- AACS too new

Post by CybrFyre » Tue Aug 31, 2010 12:05 am

MakeMKV v1.5.8 linux(x64-release) started
Using direct disc access mode
This disc uses newer version of AACS protection. Please let us know about it by visiting http://www.makemkv.com/a/?AgICAgJo/7RAAi...
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc

(I did click the link given to me by makemkv)

Hi!

That BluRay was released in April 2009 - and most certainly does NOT "newer version of AACS protection".

Hunh. And makemkv does say AACS v12. I restarted makemv and tried opening the disc again... same result. And no read errors reported to my dmesg.

Enabled debug log and restart... and makemkv successfully opened the disc?!

Turn debug log back off and restart... fails to open w. the AACS version error again.

Turn debug log back on and restart... fails to open disc.

Tried increasing the error retry from 5 to 10.. .still failing, now. Hunh.

ps the encrypted backup of the disc was successful -- I just tried opening that, failed as well.

The failure is always at AACS/MKB_RO.inf

As I said, that disc does not contain a new version of AACS protection (MKB12 is about 2 years old now. The newest version is presently MKB18 - and MakeMKV can process ALL BluRay discs that presently exist).

1) You might want to try uninstalling and then reinstalling MakeMKV v.1.5.8 - and if that doesn't help,

2) Return the disc to the place of purchase in exchange for a new one

What's interesting is that some tries, makemkv will spend a bunch of time spinning at 100% cpu before failing out. So, it's doing something before giving up.

I may try a recompile and see what happens.

Took the disc out to try another which works, put back in, and decrypted this time. Running makemkv to grab the tracks, so we'll see what happens.
