Hey all! Long time user, first time poster (be gentle)
I have a newish Asus BW-16D1X-U drive (Blu-Ray). I recently finished ripping about 170 blu-rays and the drive performed great. Most of them were getting 6.0x read speeds. But I just started ripping some DVD's and am getting 1.8x to 2.0x read speeds at the most.
Not really sure what causes this. I figured the DVD read speed would have been like twice that of the BD read speed.
I'm using MakeMKV v1.14.3 on Ubuntu (so it's partially compiled from source).
Any ideas as to how I can boost the read speed?
Slow (2.0x) DVD Read Rate
Re: Slow (2.0x) DVD Read Rate
I have seen times when BD drives have a VERY hard time with some DVDs. These disks usually finish just fine, but they do not read particularly well with the BLUE laser found in BD players. Pop them in a (red laser) DVD drive, and they read a lot faster.
The last time I had it happen was one disk out of the Hercules set. But it is one reason I keep a couple of USB DVD drives around. On that one, I went through 2 sets of disks before I could get that particular disk to read, and ONLY by putting it in an old Sony DVD drive.
