BluRay ripping fails since installing v1.14.3

Post by zakryc »

I have been using MakeMKV with no issues for a long time. I ripped several discs during the last week (including one the night before). This morning I installed v1.14.3 and since I have not been able to rip any disc. Here is an example output:

Backing up disc into folder "J:/_rips/Limitless/BD"
Using LibreDrive mode (v05 id=E064BA3E3F81)
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\zak/.MakeMKV/MKB_v23_LIMITLESS_BD_F88A.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Backup failed

Here is my drive information:

Drive Information
OS device name: \Device\CdRom0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.01
Serial number: KEHI6SC0438
Firmware date: 2117-03-31 14:26
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 66

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 3.01
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Possible, not yet enabled

I have not modified my drive since getting the firmware set when I first got it.

Here is what I have tested with:
1. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling MakeMKV
2. Tried moving everything in my .MakeMKV folder to a different location to force MakeMKV to redownload _private_data.tar
3. Tried using a disc that was previously successful last week
4. Tried restarting my computer

None of these has resulted in a disc being decrypted.

Any suggestions?

I had the same problem over the last two days after upgrading to v1.14.3. This morning I downgraded back to v1.14.2 and so far all is well. I am having to rerip all of my disc's and will post if there are any further problems. You might try downgrading to v1.14.2 and see what happens.

I just tried instaling v1.14.2, but I received the exact same error message as before.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Or perhaps know who I can contact to get further assistance?

I have had essentially the same problem. It never errors out but the time it takes to rip a Blu-Ray has gone up 7-9 times and then the rip itself does not work. I was going to roll back to the previous version but I noticed it did not work for zakryc. Have you all come up with and solutions for the problem? Thanks!

Update the firmware to the MK firmware (Current Version for that drive is v.3.10)

Sounds like your drive is not LibreDrive Enabled!

DO NOT UPDATE THE DRIVE FIRMWARE TO THE LATEST. I HAVE THE SAME DRIVE. THE COMPANY I BOUGHT IT FROM LOCKED THE DRIVE AT THE LAST FIRMWARE VERSION THAT SUPPORTED "UHD FRIENDLY" MODE....OR LIBRE DRIVE MODE WHICH IS 3.0!! YOUR DRIVE WILL NO LONGER WORK UNLESS YOU ARE ABLE TO ROLL BACK THE FIRMWARE TO 3.0
unless you are using a rebranded drive from a 3rd party company, that modified the Firmware

The whole point of the MK Firmware is to Fix all that non sence!!!

and just a FYI the first release of 3.02 is the latest UNMODIFIED Firmware to be UHD Friendly!

i have the same drive on the MK 3.10 Firmware on 1.14.3 and it works perfectly fine!

There were 2 versions of "3.02" released by ASUS, much to everyone's annoyance. The first one was indeed still UHD friendly. A few weeks later they re-released it and that version was not. In any case, at this point in time there's literally no reason not to use the DE firmware collection OR the MK firmware collection. MK 3.10 is the best firmware for the drive we've seen. I use it on mine and it retains all the UHD friendliness you can want in a drive plus comes with some nice firmware fixes. Flashing factory versions of any firmware at this point just make no sense, but, the DE or MK versions....completely fair game. :)

Does this MK 3.10 make any difference as far as compatibility with reading disks? I keep reading that firmware upgrades do nothing as far as that goes.

It does in this case. A few of us have noticed much better reading on triple layer UHD's.
