LG WH16NS40 Blu-ray Burner dead in a couple of weeks?

Post by KiltedShane » Thu Feb 28, 2019 2:20 pm

I think the damn LG WH16NS40 Blu-ray Burner I just installed and downgraded has died. I bought it last May but when I saw the 1.03 firmware I didn't bother installing it as the one it was going to replace was working fine.

When the old one died and I was forced to install it, I found the thread about downgrading the firmware so I did it and all seemed well. A couple of days ago the speeds seemed to drop off and yesterday it starting giving read errors and failing to rip DVDs.

I'm going to try swapping the SATA and power cables with the other drive just to rule those out but if that doesn't fix it, I'm at a loss.

It can happen sure. Where did you buy it?
There are sellers all over Amazon and Ebay selling refurbished and used drives as new, I know that's old news but yeah, something to be aware of none the less.
