At least from my experience (perhaps I did something wrong), but MakeMKV doesn't record the VUKs for discs that it has previously opened. so if I have 2 broken discs that I can make a good image out of (via ddrescue), I can't just open the broken disc once in makemkv then create a good ISO out of the 2 discs and then open the ISO in makemkv.
What I can do (which is much more annoying), is start a protected backup (so it records the info there), create the iso, extract the iso to the protected backup dir and then open the protected backup dir.
It would be much easier if I could just open the protected ISO I made with ddrescue. just a thought?

Re: makemkv doesn't record VUKs for discs opened
MakeMKV records the information when doing an ENCRYPTED backup. It is drive- and disk-dependent.

the only thing that's drive dependent is if the disk wants bus encryption. But the VUK from one drive should open the disc on any other drive its inserted into (assuming bus encryption is taken care of)
