I would support a project if it worked, but this is absolutely abysmal.
ALL discs that crash, will crash after I put in the disc and hit the "Open DVD Disc" icon in the middle of the screen. After the disc is completely scanned, it hangs for a few seconds, and then simultaneously shows both the fully available disc in the MakeMKV screen, and a new popup window that says "Fatal error occurred, program will now exit."
Umm...great...how about why?? I literally can't even go to View -> Preferences without the program crashing if I have a disc on.
BTW, this happens with ALL discs, as mentioned: DVD, Bluray, and UHD. Only about 10 percent of the time can I actually have MakeMKV properly read the disc and behave. Otherwise, I have to backup the entire to my hard drive, and then run MakeMKV on the disc from local files. But now I can't even do that, because the icon for backing up the disc is disabled!
With discs removed, I turned on "Log debug messages" in the preferences, but it doesn't seem to show anything extra except a "code 233 at i/1yuvm1ZzZr6UUnTY1YGAb:0".
Ironically, I would support this project because the market is so small for UHD, but after this I can't see myself doing it.
MakeMKV CONSTANTLY crashes
Re: MakeMKV CONSTANTLY crashes
Well, I haven't seen a crash in MakeMKV for years, although others have seen them with varying frequency.
If a fatal error occurred, there should be a system report on the circumstances.
More information is needed. Since you mention UHD, you've obviously replaced your drive recently, since any drive prior to 2016 is unlikely to be able to read UHD.
Backup doesn't work on DVDs, so having the button greyed out for a DVD is expected.

Re: MakeMKV CONSTANTLY crashes
Well I don't think I would call this a crash, exactly. MakeMKV seems to be killing itself. Otherwise how would it pop up a window saying it's about to exit.
I have nothing in the "Windows Error Reporting" of the System Information window that indicates any type of reasoning for any of this. Anything else I can look for?

I also checked the event viewer and found nothing meaningful, or even related to MakeMKV.
BTW, the drive I have is a UHD friendly (1.02 firmware) ASUS BW-16D1HT.

Re: MakeMKV CONSTANTLY crashes
I have this same issue.
For DVDs is scans them (skips shorters than x seconds) then freezes for a bit. It then goes to the next title screen which lists the titles correctly, but also immediately pops up that a fatal error has occurred and it will close. I can't get out of that popup without the whole program closing. I have also tried looking in the event viewer and can't see anything in there that seems relevant.
Of note, I have also tried downgrading versions (1.14.3, 1.14.2, 1.14.1, 1.12.2 and 1.12.0) All of these seem to be affected. but these all previously had worked. So something is broken that's either persistent after an install OR windows related.
I can rip the DVD iso using other software so I don't think its specifically to do with my hardware dying (or at least, that make mkv isn't handling something as well as other software).
Is there some debug flag i can set to provide some better logging for this error? It seems like it's not just me given the OP seems to have the same symptoms.
Cheers

Re: MakeMKV CONSTANTLY crashes
I have a post waiting in moderation, however with a bit more playing around I also discovered MakeMKV was crashing when I tried to open the preferences as well and none of the changes i made there stuck ever.
I ended up uninstalling, deleting the Registry entry and user folder (which are persistent between installs) and then installed again. I no longer have the issue.
I'm not sure what's caused this along the line, and I don't know specifically when I had this issue arise. But, that's the solution for me.

Re: MakeMKV CONSTANTLY crashes
Any update? I've been having the same issues. Works fine for a while after cleaning up the registry. Too bad the uninstall doesn't do this.

Re: MakeMKV CONSTANTLY crashes
For the ASUS BW-16D1HT the proper firmware is 3.0. Or you can use any of the MK revised firmware on here. I have the same model number drive and have MK3.10. If you have FW 1.02 the drive is probably the older version and is not UHD freindly. As far as the other issues im not too sure. But maybe try updating the firmware to see if that helps. I have ripped over 100 movies with the ASUS BW-16D1HT including about 30 UHD movies with no issues other than a few old DVDs that are not in good enough shape to be ripped.SearchEngine27 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 22, 2019 2:15 amI also checked the event viewer and found nothing meaningful, or even related to MakeMKV.
