Hello I'm new to the forum. I'm trying to downgrade my BW-16D1HT. Ive been able to dump my firemare ver 3.03. The dump file is 2048 kb. I have tried to follow the windows instructions for HEX editing the clean firmware. When I flash the modified firmware i get write errors and the drives does not function. I can re flash the drive back to FW 3.03 no problems, drive returns to normal function. I must be doing something wrong witht the HEX editing. I'm using HxD as the editor. I have attached both my dump and modified files. Could some one take a look and see what ive done wrong.
Thank you
apw63, it's so much easier to use the EEPROM Data Mover to automatically do the hex editing for you. Anyway, here is a 3.02 made from your dump.
Let us know how you go..
Cheers

Is it normal to have the wrong Serial Number and Firmware Date displayed in MakeMKV after firmware downgrade?

Unless you can switch your mac from SATA to IDE mode in BIOS, connect your drive via SATA and run a windows 7 or 10 live thumb drive, I doubt it can be done.
Cheers

Hi everyone, Is this procedure needed if I only want to rip some 1080p blurays with the bh16ns55? I don't know which firmware it has, I should still buy one. I tried looking for the answer in other threads but I did not get it.

Help / Advice needed.
I've just got an ASUS BW-16D1HT with firmware 3.03
Is there a way to downgrade the Firmware via USB or on a Mac?
No needs a sata connection and ide mode
Will eSata work?

Thanks again MartyMcNuts!
My motherboard died last Thursday... talk about bad timing. >.<
New parts installed yesterday but that no longer had an IDE option.
Luckily my old server does have an IDE mode!
Used the windows 7 usb again and this time erase/write flash with DOSFLASH.
First time it failed though, wrong firmware error 02 if I remember correctly.
Did the erase/write flash a second time and it finished without error and reported writing successful!
Ripped my first 4K disc (Justice League) today!
Just want to say I successfully used the instructions in the OP to downgrade a 1.03 WH14NS40 with service code 50 to 1.02, works great, but I did have to do a 2nd ERASE/WRITE cycle with DOSFLASH before it flashed without errors, as described in the quoted post. Might make for a good FAQ/TROUBLESHOOTING section.
Many thanks to everyone who figured this out!

Thanks Teddy and everyone else for all the info collected and compiled here. Last week I got an Asus BW-16D1HT manufactured mid 2018 with 3.03 on it and I was able to downgrade to 3.02. I have since successfully ripped both 1080p and 4k since the downgrade. It was fairly easy once I read through the instructions a few times. I did open up my computer and unplug the SSD before switching to IDE mode just to be safe but once I was done I plugged the drive back in, switched back to AHCI, and it booted up like nothing happened. The "Julia" version of windows was a little weird but it seemed to work fine for me.
Thanks again!
