Apollo 13 20th Anniversary BluRay

#1 Post by BillW75 » Thu Dec 13, 2018 7:27 pm

2 questions -
There are 2 files of 36GB - does anyone know why?
Second - more important: MakeMKV will not successfully save either one. Four other smaller files do just fine. I've tried twice - and the disk is brand new - never played or handled.

I just wonder if it's the sheer size of the files (those are the largest files I've encountered in my using MakeMKV for BluRays) or something else.

First outright failure I've ever encountered after using this on dozens of Blu Ray disks.

(And yes, I have purchased the license after finding this so useful)

Blurays can be authored many ways. Often, there are multiple play lists for the same data, with minor changes (Disney does this a LOT).

And if you're getting errors, start here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15055

I managed to get this to work - lesson learned. Despite it being a brand new disk - literally opened the package and took the disk and put it straight into my computer drive - it apparently had some smudge or whatever that choked it. I took a cloth and wiped down the disk and tried again and it worked.

HOWEVER - I did do one other thing different - so perhaps it was this. The audio had 5.1 HD and as a subset the regular 5.1. I never noticed that before on any disks - I typically choose the first audio and unclick the rest. This time I unclicked the HD and only had the regular 5.1

I wish I had not made two changes before retrying - but it worked due to one of them.

I've gotten new, sealed disks, with fingerprints and scratches on them. Turns out the publisher burns them "on demand", so they were hand-packaged, poorly. Have not seen that with Bluray, but BD has other packaging issues.
