Hello All,
I have an LG WH16NS40 with 1.03 firmware and I am trying to downgrade the firmware to v1.02. I have dumped the firmware using DosFlash software. I attaching the firmware dump.

Can someone please help me with downgrading firmware to 1.02 by incorporating the data from 1.03 to 1.02?

Thanks
I just purchased an LG WH16NS40. It has the SVC NS50 code and 1.03 firmware.

Can I just use the modified LG firmware attached by billycar11? To flash it to the modified 1.02, do I just follow the instructions in the first post beginning with the "Steps for Flashing Firmware" section?

I can definitely follow instructions and do whatever is needed. I just want to make sure I am not taking any shortcuts that will result in errors.

TIA

Thanks, I suspected that might be the case, but, I did not know if the edited firmware was "generic" for all drives like a general firmware release would be.

I'll start at the beginning, very carefully, and see if I am successful in executing the data mover tool without requiring assistance. It's good to know there is some help available if I get stuck.

Thanks again!

EDIT: Well, had I read entirely through the instructions before posting, I would have seen it clearly stated that dumped firmware is drive-specific :D

Since there are experts here who have done this many times, I would appreciate if someone could modify in the appropriate manner the attached DOSFlash firmware dump from my LG WH16NS40 drive.

My sincere thanks in advance

Thank you very much Mr. McNuts. Would you recommend one over the other? I know the ASUS is essentially an LG drive, but, I thought I read somewhere that there is slightly better performance with the ASUS firmware. Is this true or is there really not much difference?

Nice walk through Teddy. I'm not sure if i want to try my editing if the dump file to create the final test.bin for flashing. I'm sure i might do it right lol. Could i send you the dump? Then i can compare my attempt with yours to see if i would have done it right.

Many thanks.

Ok, so I just got an ASUS BW-16D 1HT from Amazon with the 3.03 firmware.

I followed the instructions in the first post as best as I could (windows method of firmware dump). However, I could not specifically choose "IDE" instead of UEFI but I was able to choose "legacy". Also, I could not change the SATA method to IDE (it was originally set for AHCI), but I was able to change it to ATA.

So assuming the adjustments I made above are ok, I was able to load the windows 7 on a usb stick and run the dosflash program to read and dump the firmware. I am posting it here hoping that someone can take the next step and help me to modify it to a UHD friendly version to flash :D

Here is a link to a copy of my firmware dump uploaded to dropbox.

Thanks to @TeddyRaspin and the community for the great tips and resources.
Thanks a million for your nice document. Together with that and the original "100% Firmware Downgrade etc..." guide it was a breeze to downgrade my brand new ASUS BW-16D1HT from 3.03 (bought it this week, manufacturing date is somewhere in May) to 3.01. Before flashing I used a HEX editor to check that the parts that needed to go over had indeed been done.
The only weird thing: booting Windows7. (normally Opensuse Tumbleweed) ;-)

[update]: Just successfully ripped the first UHD BR.

Great stuff!
Hey Jobber i'm just bought mine too with 3.03. Why did you go for the 3.01 instead of the 3.02? Better speed? Reliability?

Hi @MartyMcNuts

I've posted my dump .bin file for the Asus 16D1HT for some reason WinHex isn't letting me save the bin correctly. Your help is appreciated.

Thanks!
