[SOLVED] Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE'

Hello,

I have been a happy user of this software for many years... keep up the great work.

However, the last three DVD discs I have used (Windtalkers, Dungeons & Dragons, The New World) have all given me the following error...

Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A40..0850..00C04 to device 'SG:dev_21:1'

...but have finished fine and created the required MKV file, which plays perfectly.

Is it my drive or is it the software?

It really depends on when/where the error occurs in the process. Sometimes the error triggers MakeMKV to do something a bit differently to get around an access limitation.

I still see these occasionally while ripping. I ignore them as long as MakeMKV completes its tasks. If it doesn't, THEN I look at the particulars.

I am not sure exactly when it happens but it's at some point just before the saving process...

...the saving operation completes and the error has only started when I upgraded to the latest version 1.14.1 about a week ago.

It could just be coincidence... I have had the same BD Drive for many many years (performing thousands of operations) so it could be failing and I would not be surprised or sad.

What do you think?

It could be that there is something going on with your drive if it has age to it.however i would say try to update makemkv to latest version and see if its still giving you the same error if it is.i would say it may be the drive.

Updated to 1.14.2 and the errors have gone

I had the same problem in 1.14.2. I solved it by locating the ccextractor program and going into preferences and selecting advanced preferences and then under the advanced tab which shows up, I put in the path to ccextractor. /usr/bin/ccextractor
It was giving me an /usr/bin/mmccextr message and that program is not the name if you install ccextractor on UBUNTU 14 Desktop the command is ccextractor. It seems to work on a brand new movie I just purchased.

I downloaded the Makemkv program again. I was using 1.14.2 for Mac. It was the same version as the one I was running that was giving me the "ILLEGAL REQUEST" errors. The I ran the replacement version of makemkv the "ILLEGAL REQUEST" errors no longer appeared and the program starting working again. Try downloading it again and replace your existing app.

Hello all. My first post here. I have a USB external HL-DT-ST BHN16S55 drive with 1.02 firmware. Using 1.14.3 on a Mac mini running El Capitan 10.11.6.

I went to Fry's and bought Incredibles 2 on UHD and decided to try it out as the guinea pig for seeing if I can rip UHD titles with this drive to my RAID.

But almost as soon as I set MakeMKV loose on it, I got these errors - 5 sets of them.

(The weird thing is, I didn't even select the "Decrypt video files" option. Thought I would try it un-decrypted first, just for grins. Should I have checked it instead?)
