Hi

I have an Asus BC-12D2HT which has FW 3.01. On top of that my PCs don't offer IDE mode, just RAID instead of AHCI.

Is there any way I can downgrade this sucker? If not which drives can I buy that should work out of the box with UHD discs for MakeMKV?
Already discussed in detail here:

And here:

And here:

And in clearly marked post where members are selling ready-to-go drives. You have choices.

Just wanted to post another semi success story (fingers crossed that it worked, but I can't test it until later today!)

Drive: Asus BW-16D1HT (BH16NS40) with 3.3
- Create Win 7 PE on a USB (1GB USB was fine for this, in case anyone is worried about size)
- Copied DOSFLASH32 (all files) and 3.02 firmware to the USB (GOOD 3.02, not slyly-updated 3.02 from Asus)
- had to set SATA configuration to ATA on this machine (Dell Precision) via BIOS, as expected.
- Disconnected all drives in the PC and only plugged Asus drive into the primary SATA port
- Booted from USB into Win7 PE
- ran DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40, and it saw my drive. Selected Read Flash. Made multiple copies ;)
- Ran the EEPROM data mover and saved the new flash file. Made multiple copies ;)
- ran DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40 again... ERROR. Problem loading portio32.sys ("Oh no!")
- remembered that I already had DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40 running ;) can't run two instances at the same time, silly rabbit.
- Selected Erase Flash in DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40. Point of no return?
- Selected Write Flash in DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40. Used updated file from EEPROM data mover.
- 30 seconds later, flash was done. Closed and re-opened DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40. Confirmed firmware now shows 3.02.

Asus BW-16D1HT (BH16NS40) with 3.02 is now ready to test. Hoping it goes well. :D

EDIT: ripping ZOMBI: Dawn of the Dead now 8)

Can I get some assistance for the necessary FW edits for my BW-16D1HT? I've attached the dump of my current. Or just point me in the right directions. Thanks!

Nevermind I think i got it working. Well at least I reflashed it and it shows the earlier version. Unfortunately dont have any UHD discs yet to try it out on.

@tds3819

Here you go. A fresh ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.02 firmware created using your 3.03 firmware dump. Once you get this installed, let us all know how you go with UHD ripping!!

Thanks Dan-O I have a BH16NS40 that wasn't a CS50 version so I'll grab one of these Asus's since it looks like they're still working. Cheers for a recent update!

Your method worked for me like a charm. Used the firmware that MartyMcNuts gave me and used Erase and Write Flash in the Windows 7 PE.

Just picked up an Asus BC-12D2HT but even with Firmware 3.01 I'm still getting "No disc inserted" unfortunately. Will give a firmware flash a go tomorrow and cross my fingers.

Drive Information
OS device name: H:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BC-12D2HT
Revision: 3.01
Firmware date: 2117-11-15 19:26:
Bus encryption flags: 1E
Highest AACS version: 21

No disc inserted

Edit: Ho...ly...smokes. Flashed the BC-12D2HT 3.01 to a BW-16D1HT 3.00 and currently backing up my UHD copy of Coco. Going at ~7MB/s which seems down on everyone else, but extremely happy that it's working at all. Got a sale out of me, and thanks to the community and the pages of advice from everyone :D

Thanks to @TeddyRaspin and the community for the great tips and resources.
Thanks a million for your nice document. Together with that and the original "100% Firmware Downgrade etc..." guide it was a breeze to downgrade my brand new ASUS BW-16D1HT from 3.03 (bought it this week, manufacturing date is somewhere in May) to 3.01. Before flashing I used a HEX editor to check that the parts that needed to go over had indeed been done.
The only weird thing: booting Windows7. (normally Opensuse Tumbleweed) ;-)

[update]: Just successfully ripped the first UHD BR.

Great stuff!
