Version 12 Cannot Open UHD Blu-Rays, but Version 10 Can

#1 Post by PeterKin » Wed Mar 28, 2018 5:30 pm

Hi,

I'm a new user so forgive me if this seems too basic an issue to raise here. I tried the 30-day trial of MakeMKV version 1.10.10 and successfully backed up one of my 4K UHD Blu-ray discs to a NAS. So I purchased a licence and then noticed a message saying an update to version 1.12 was available. After installing the update I found Make MKV could no longer Open any UHD discs, including the one I'd previously been able to backup. So I uninstalled version 1.12 and reinstalled vesion 1.10.10 and it's working again. So, unless I've missed something, it looks like version 1.12 not longer works with UHD Blu-Rays. :?:

Version 1.12 has been out for literally several months.

Many users--including myself--have successfully decrypted many UHD discs using this version since its release.

Are you following the instruction posted by Mike in this sticky for the updated Hashed keys?

http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic ... 12&t=16959

Are you making sure that this hash key file is in the correct place when updating to 1.12?

Hi st4evr,

I'm putting the hasked keys file in the MakeMKV directory. That's exactly what I did with version 1.10.10, and it worked prefectly. But since updating to version 1.12 it won't work. MakeMKV recognizes, displays the name, but fails to open any disc and creates a .dmp file each time I try. I have tried re-downloading a fresh copy of version 1.12 (just in case the first was corrupted), but that doesn't work either.

I followed your link to Mike's sticky and read that you're supposed to put the hashed keys file into the MakeMKV "data directory" - but there is no data directory within the MakeMKV directory, so does this mean there's a directory I haven't found yet or am I doing the right thing and it's just not working?

Thanks,

PeterKin

The data directory should NOT be stored under the main program directory & is explicitly set apart so it is not deleted with each program update. Check 'Preferences' > 'General' tab where the 'MakeMKV data directory' path is defined.

d00zah, that's brilliant! Thanks. Moved the hashed keys file and it now works. Maybe I missed something in the instructions somewhere, but it's all sorted now.

So many posts that refer to the term "hashed key file" and where to put it. So, I went to the location for this file and downloaded that file. It is named "keys_hashed.txt". So, is it correct to simply place this file, as is and without naming it, into the MakeMKV User data directory? Thanks.

Yes. As Mike states in that same post where you download the file from:

"just download the relevant text file and put it into MakeMKV data directory."

There is no mention at all of renaming the file. Do as Mike instructs and you will be ok.

good morning

I put the keys in the data directory (the location where Makemkv is installed). Is that correct? I have problems that cancel the UHD's after half. Versus Shape of Waters. Key is deposited for the film. Why does this not work. Have a LG UHD friendly drive. Where in which location does this really need to go? Please help

i have the newest Version of makemkv!

many thanks

READ and follow his instructions and you’ll be fine.

2. READ THIS:

1. Ok what the EXACT model number of your LG Drive and what is the firmware number it currently has installed? Include the NS code in your reply as shown in the sticker that is on the actual physcial drive.

2. Read these:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9288&p=40053&hilit= ... set#p40053

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17147&p=60898&hilit ... set#p60898

3. As it’s discussed in one of those threads, try another ripping application that supports UHD BD disc ripping to see what happens. Does the disc rip successfully? Or does it also return errors? Etc.
