LG BE16NU50 started ejecting discs without reading them

Post by kingston12 »

I’ve had the BE16NU50 external drive attached to my iMac for about 6 months, and it has been great.

It has now just started to eject discs without reading them. There is minimal noise from the drive while the disc stays in for about a minute and is then ejected.

I have tried UHD and normal Blu-ray Discs.

Fortunately I have another copy of the same drive and that works just fine, but I’d obviously like to get the first one working as well.

Has anyone else had this problem?

If you have another copy you’re good. It’s the disc obviously. If you’ve tried cleaning it and it doesn’t work set it aside and try it in a stand alone player sometime. Chances are it will play fine there and move on with life.
There are some discs which cannot be ripped

What I meant to say was that the first drive ejects all discs without reading them.

Swapping in the second drive is fine as it works perfectly, but I’d like to get the first one working as well so I have a backup.

I have tried running a cleaner disc through it, but that made no difference.

i understood what you said the first time someone else here is better at name calling then reading comprehension. the only advice i can give is to rma it if its still under warranty but then comes the firmware problem when they send you a new drive.

Has the drive been cleaned recently? It might not be detecting the data flashes that would come from trying to read a disk, and ejecting it as "foreign matter".

A blast from an "air duster" can might be all it needs.

Thanks. The supplier is unresponsive so far. I'll persist.

I have run one of those cleaner discs with the brushes through it, but it didn't help. I will try the air duster approach next, thanks.
