Can anyone assist me on how to copy and write the dumped bin over to the clean bin in Winhex. I would highlight the area but I cant figure out how to write it over to the clean bin.

i have never had to clean the clean firmware but whatever long as your up and running did you use the clean firmware linked here

I didn't see the clean firmware here, I got the clean dump elsewhere, I was looking for it. I did get find the "firmware cleaner" here, though.

I have been a long time lurker, learner and I just want to say thanks again for an excellent write-up. Only one hidden "gotcha" which was the Hex editor - it barked about saving anything over 20kb - so I hunted down another editor. But long story short; the instructions are clear and well written, if you are a bit of a geek -- and very patient (which I am still working on...)- no problem!

First of all, big thanks to TeddyRaspin for his awesome work.

However, I would only recommend following this guide only if you really understand what you are doing. The reason - additional information and tools would be announced in near future that would make the process easier and fool-proof. Specifically:
- any firmware can be upgraded or downgraded, on all platforms, using open-source tools (without dosflash or patched OEM flashers).
- any drive can be cross-flashed (UHD into friendly, for example).
- partially dumped firmware can be recovered.

So while this method indeed works and produces amazing results, be very careful to follow the instructions closely. If unsure - just wait for more user-friendly tools to be released. There will be another announcement on this forum.

Has this fool-proof tool been released? Or are there any updates to when this may be released?

Just want to say a BIG thanks to TeddyRaspin for this guide, awesome job

Thankfully I knew that my motherboard BIOS has support for SATA Controller as IDE and CSM for booting from USB, and using your 'Automated Windows Method', I was able to downgrade the f/w on my Asus BW-16D1HT from the 'tweaked' v3.02 that blocks UHD, down to v3.00... and now everything works as it should

1) I made a copy of my original v3.02 f/w 1st.. In fact I read and saved it twice, just to make sure Datasum was the same both times, so I knew it was reading and saving it ok.
2) Then used my original v3.02 f/w I had just dumped, and merged it with the 'clean' v3.00 f/w here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=16885 (last post on 1st page by Badnews, 1st link in that post), which created a 'new' version to flash to the drive.
3) I then erased the original v3.02 f/w that was on the drive, and then flashed the 'new' v3.00 f/w I had created to the drive.

Job done

Seems like there is a lot of confusion regarding creating the merged firmware using HEX editor. After reading the guide a couple times and more clarification from this post (thanks @anger98), it was clear that using the automated EPROM mover was much more user-friendly than the HEX editor. But many may miss this part of the guide since it's near the bottom of the post.

@TeddyRaspin, I appreciate you taking the time to create the tools and making this guide for the community, it has helped a ton of people. In my opinion however, it may better if you reorganize your guide a little bit, so that the EPROM mover section is higher up than the HEX editor and should be the recommended method for creating the merged firmware. And the emphasis on the requirement to back up the stock firmware should also be moved up in the post. Also, the Windows method may be the easiest and user-friendly method than the DOS method for flashing the firmware, this should be the recommended method.

If you want, I am willing to work together with you to format your guide so that it is more intuitive and easier to read

1.Download all required sofware.
2.Create a bootable Windows 7 Live USB.
3.Copy all required software to a folder inside the USB drive.
4.Copy a clean version of the previous firmware to the USB drive.
5.Connect both, the drive and the USB stick.
6.Boot a computer with the SATA controller set to IDE and USB boot enabled.
7.Using the modified DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40.exe, dump your current firmware (1.03) to your USB drive, required for serial and other information extraction.
8.Using EEPROM Data Mover, merge the information of the older (clean) firmware (1.02) to your dumped firmware to create a new mixed firmware.
9.Using the modified DOSFLASH32_BH16NS40.exe, delete the current firmware from the drive, and install/flash the merged firmware.
Reboot.

So how would that steps look like to achieve this?

change step 8 to be a clean asus firmware 3.01 or 3.02 thats all

Now the question is, how to upgrade from 3.01 to yours 3.02 ?
