Star Trek Into Darkness BluRay

#1 Post by codefast » Wed Sep 11, 2013 5:06 pm

Hi there,

Has anyone had any luck backing up their Star Trek Into Darkness Blu ray using MakeMKV? I just got a disk from Amazon that isn't even allowing me to select the backup option. I'm waiting to test it in another blu ray player, but thought I'd ask if someone had done this successfully.

Thanks.

Same here. I don't know what Paramount did, but I'm getting all sorts of SCSI errors when I attempt to read the disk. I'm going to reboot and see if that helps, I have both Mac OS X 10.8 and Windows 8.1 at my disposal.

Using 1.8.4, opening the disc throws a lot of errors to the screen, and I ultimately wind up with only the choice of the DVD (7gb) title set. This on the combo DVD+BluRay+digcopy version of the disc.

I was able to get it going after a reboot, full backup worked successfully. I must have been having issues with the DASPI filter under Mac OS X.

I'm running on Windows7 Home Premium x64, myself... Looks like MakeMKV thinks the whole Bluray structure is bogus. All I can get is the DVD version off the disc.

I had no trouble ripping the main movie on my Mac yesterday. Just re-checked and both the 2D and 3D discs open with option to "Backup" the content. Discs package also purchased through Amazon. Disc opening tested on LG WH14NS40 and Pioneer BDR-208 drives using registered MakeMKV v1.8.4 software. Same results for all tests but I did not actually run a full backup since I use iTunes to manage playback to/from IOS mobile and ?TV2 devices.

Well, this doesn't help anyone, but with 1.8.4, the Into Darkness disc read and ripped as per normal (for me at least) under Windows 7 64-bit. This was the standalone 2D Blu-ray version released in Canada.

Not sure if this is my Bluray drive or what, haven't had issues to this point. But MakeMKV identifies the disk as a DVD, not Blu-Ray, and reports the above (like it can't recognize the BD titles). This on a new replacement BD+DVD disk.

I had the same slew of errors reported when trying to make a backup. Turns out I had the DVD disc in the drive. Swapped it for the BluRay and everything works perfectly.

Not sure why it had such an issue with the DVD backup...

Edit: v1.8.5, Korora Linux 19, x64, GNOME. BluRay + DVD + Digital bought from Amazon US.

Considering the "Backup" feature is for BD only, it isn't surprising it didn't work.

The only option with DVDs should be to open them and save tracks as MKV files, which is also an option with BDs.

Huh, would you look at that, MakeMKV has a "Backup" function - never used that before. Bad/coincidental choice of terminology on my part when describing the issue.

The issue I had experienced occurred when using the standard "Open disc" function that allows you to select Video/Audio channels to pack into an mkv. That's what choked on the DVD, but was fine on the BluRay.

Which part?
This is the BluRay forum however in this thread you have reports on both the BluRay and DVD.
I, for one, had no issues with the BluRay.
