"Apocalypse Now" 3-disc BR -- Disc 2 won't rip

Can someone else give this a try? It's the one blu-ray disc I own that won't rip. It just clicks and clicks and clicks in my Pioneer BDR-XD05. MakeMKV does the initial read, but when opening the disc, it fails. The disc plays fine on my Sony Blu-Ray player.

This is Disc 2 Special Features.

Disc 1 -- both Original and Redux versions -- rip fine.
Disc 3 -- "Hearts of Darkness" -- rips fine.

I went to try and rip it again to see what the Log file read, and the drive can no longer see it.

Have you tried cleaning the disc with a 50/50 solution of water and rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth. Just one more possible problem to try. Good Luck.

Do unclean discs still play in normal blu-ray players? Because mine did and does, pre- and post-cleaning.

Yes they will. What we are doing is essentially a bit by bit copy so the disc quality is much more critical. A standard blu-ray player is not under the same restrictions so it is able to deal with the dirty discs for the most part.

So I guess the disc is faulty in that area.

"Faulty" has many levels - including "just a bit dirty". I've been getting more and more disks that have a chemical film on them from the packaging process. Sometimes it's bad enough to interfere with reading the disk, sometimes it's OK. Usually, the only way you can SEE the film is to clean a spot on the disk, and see the contrast in reflectivity. I tried to get a picture of it last month, but the camera refused to focus on the disk, selecting the reflection of the light source as the focal point instead.

A damp, SOFT cloth is my first line of attack if a disk gives read errors.

I've never heard of the packaging film affecting a disc's readability. I will certainly try a damp soft cloth now. Appreciate it!

For cleaning my discs, I use a microfiber cloth with a solution of 50/50 distilled water and rubbing alcohol. Every new disc I get is cleaned by this method. Before I started doing this, I would have issues with some new titles and now that problem has gone away. That does not mean that all problems will stop, but every little bit helps. The microfiber cloths are the best I have found for this and most other cleaning jobs. Good Luck.
