Forced Subs...

Post by liquidskin76 »

hi,

What format are subs, and more to the point forced subs, saved as when creating an mkv?

Is it IDX/SUB format, where the sub font, etc is retained (like on Avatar and the navi subs/font)?

Thanks!

If the source is BluRay then the subs are PGS subs. It is a graphical format. Also see BDSup2Sub program mentioned on this forum several times.

Thanks for the info MilesAhead.

I usually use BDSup2Sub to export as IDX/SUB.

You can use Quick AVI Creator(a freeware) to shrink the .mkv and optionally burn in the subs as alternative to Handbrake. In fact you can also burn in subs using it with .avi HD output. The main thing vexing about using it, other than the encoding time, is there's no progress bar or other usable indication when it will finish. Other than that it's a good stable front end.
