Very long time to ready other region discs

My Dvd reader is an ASUS 24B1ST, set to region 1.
When I insert a region 2 dvd, in this case, the tv show Cheers, MakeMKV makes very short work of adding the titles on the disc, it literally takes less than 5 seconds, but then prompts "Region setting of drive ASUS:DRW-24B1ST c does not match the region of currently inserted disc, trying to work around..." and takes up to 10 minutes. What exactly is it doing during this 10 minutes? No additional titles are added so I am scratching my head.

At a guess (Mike would have to confirm), it's doing a brute-force attack against the region encryption.
