New to forum and UHD with old WH16NS40 1.02

Post by ghost rider » Sat Jan 06, 2018 1:36 am

Just checking if I have this partly figured out. I need to get a friendly drive I have a old WH16NS40 I bet it is 6 or 7 years old. If I put a UHD disc in nothing happens. It had 1.0 fw and I updated it to 1.01 off the LG site still nothing no errors, nothing. I found 1.02 but not on LG's site their 1.02 was actually 1.03 and I knew you don't want it, still nothing.

I installed the latest beta version a Makemkv and copied the latest unzipped KEYDB.cfg to the Makemkv directory. I get nothing the drive spins up no error as if no disc has been put in the drive.

So I ordered the Asus BW-16D1HT it will likely come with a 3.01 fw but I have the 3.0 fw downloaded if I need it.

Soo is this the basics of what I need to do or am I missing something?

Welcome to the forum!

I don't have this drive so I can't offer any advice. Sounds like you're doing everything correct, except for ignoring the advice in two of the stickied threads to NOT upgrade your firmware.

Hopefully some other people will wander into this thread and can offer some additional advice. Good luck when your ASUS drive arrives!

(Advice: try to name new threads with specifics so that they tell something about your issue. For example, "LG WH16NS40 Firmware" in a similar style to the existing ASUS thread. Then everyone with the same drive is much more likely to notice the thread and join in the conversation.)
Using: ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.00

I found this thread to late. It seemed to me that I read posts elsewhere that it was on certain model number that works. This one being so old I'm not surprised that it won't work. Anyhow thanks for the forum advise.
