Also tried it with my Ultra HD "official" drive, just to see if I could do an encrypted backup, got a similar but different error:

I purchased same drive from Fry. Got cert. revoked and a couple of other similar messages. Mine came with the Power DVD software, which I did not install. In fact it behaved like the Pioneer uhd optical drive. I sent mine back for credit.
I am expecting Asus BW-16D1HT.

Got mine from Fry's too when they were on sale for $69. Saw they were recommended on the DeUHD site, so i went ahead, didn't realize getting a fully supported drive would end up being a negative

Ended up buying the Asus from Amazon while they were running the Dec $25 rebate, we'll see if Asus actually honors it. Mine came with 3.01 firmware, and the drive is dated May 2017 i believe.

Does anyone know whether the BW-16D1HT-PRO (alternatively listed as BW-16D1HT PRO) model is equivalent in its UHD reading ability and firmware?

It appears to be a model made for the Australasia regions but can't find any info regarding the UHD aspect since all references in the UHD-related threads refer to the non-Pro model available elsewhere. Only reference I could vaguely source was one user who believes it's a re-badged LG BH16NS40.

Update: can confirm it's similarly UHD-friendly.

i can confirm I got my lg 16beu50 to work with UHD discs once i got the key sq right it worked like a charm.I was able to backup my copy of hacksaw ridge and reverent.still working on others but im glad i got a working drive.

Has anybody tested the Pioneer BDR-211UBK ?

I'm on macOS 10.13.2

As far as I know there is no UHD Blu-ray disc playing software for the mac. I've contacted macgo blu-ray player and they don't support it.

So I want to rip the UHD blu-rays using MakeMKV and then I can use Macgo blu-ray player to watch them.

Junk. I purchased mine last year. It is useless for uhd ripping, same with LGWH16NS60.
Both are bundled with power dvd crap.

It rips normal blu ray.
Try the LG-WH16NS40. I have two working here. stay away from the LG WH16NS60
I am also expecting two Asus BW-16D1HT any day from now.
The Asus referenced above is known to work. I will update when I get mine.

Well I bought a cheap copy of The Amazing Spider-man 2 from eBay since I was having issues with Deadpool. Ripped perfectly with my ASUS BW-16D1HT (firmware 3.01), so my Deadpool issue must be something with that movie/disc. Has anyone else experienced an issue where only 1/2 the movie rips properly? I bought the Deadpool disc a while ago just to test out UHD on my Xbox One S. Probably didn't watch more than 15 mins on my non-HDR 4k TV because UHD Blu-rays without HDR aren't really all that impressive, IMHO. Anyone know if its possible to get replacement discs from the manufacture?

I have a LG BH16NS55 which was working with UHD discs okay on version 1.02 firmware.

I upgraded the firmware to 1.03 which according to LG allowed for 'better compatibility with UHD discs'.

Since the upgrade it won't recognise UHD discs at all now. Any one else seen this?

FAQ thread and the first post of this thread both clearly state do not upgrade firmware.

My guess would be something along the lines that the firmware update may have changed your UHD-friendly drive into a drive that must follow all the official UHD requirements / protections, and as a result, your drive is no longer in the UHD-friendly category and software such as MakeMKV can no longer make use of your drive.

Read the first post of this thread for a fuller, better explanation.

That's exactly what 1.03 does. It removes the ability of the drive to read UHD discs at all. You'll have to search for it, but, there's a method to revert to 1.02. I will warn you that it's not simple or straightforward because they specifically patched it to not allow firmware downgrade. But there is at least 2 separate solutions out there for it.

Just a word of caution the new LG drive may come with the 1.03 fw installed. You might think about a ASUS BW-16D1HT it is my understanding that the newest fw will not disable reading of UHD discs.
