I got this working with one of the ASUS drives... I'm a bit confused about the .cfg file. I first tried the file in this post:

https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php? ... ost1293367

That doesn't look correct since the post was last updated in 2010.

I as able to get the keys from this post to work:

https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php? ... ost1826296

but the list is kinda small. Is that the full list?

These three lines I've quoted above are the three key lines in your debug log.
1) Your drive may not be suitable.
2) The volume key is unknown. Even if that movie is listed in the keys, your disc may require a different volume key than the volume keys that are already known. You should submit the AACS dump that was created to svq@makemkv.com
3) Your KEYDB.cfg doesn't seem to have the "header" at the top of file like the original KEYDB.cfg file does. I don't know if you pasted your enter file in the pastebin or not. I don't know whether that header is a requirement to recognizing the file - it doesn't seem like it should be - but that'd be one last thing to try if your file didn't include it.

Yes - that post, the post before it, and the post after it - that's the full list of publicly posted known keys at this time. Bookmark that thread and keep an eye for any more key dumps, and if you run across a title that isn't supported yet, get the dump from MakeMKV and send it to svq@makemkv.com so that Mike can continue developing UHD support from his end.

I got my ASUS BW-16D1HT today and it read the UHD Disks :)

But i cannot copy the Disks. I got this messages :(

Code: Select all

Der Volumenschlüssel für die DVD/Blu-ray ist unbekannt - das Video kann nicht entschlüsselt werden
Backup fehlgeschlagen
KEYDB.cfg from here https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php? ... ost1823531 pasted in MakeMKV Path

Any Idea what is the Problem now?

Some users have success with this drive, but some don't.

However, right now it's hard to know what factors are affecting the problem when discs can't be ripped, such as possible bad discs, or possible wrong volume keys, etc.

Another user made a thread just for this specific drive, asking people who have it to post their firmware information. Have a look at that thread here: http://makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=16885

mike admin wrote:TLDR: Buy internal or external ASUS BW-16* drive and do not update its firmware.
Warning: ASUS BW-16D1X-U (external USB3 model) does not read UHD discs AT ALL. In fact, when I opened up the enclosure, I found that the drive is actually a Pioneer BDR-209MBK. So don't buy just any BW-16* drive, make sure the specific model number is on mike's list in the OP.

However, if you remove that Pioneer drive from the ASUS BE-16D1X-U sled and replace it with an ASUS BW-16D1HT, ripping UHD discs over USB3 works great. I'm using MakeMKV 1.10.8 and BW-16D1HT firmware 3.01. Works in Mac and PC.

Does that mean I can take the internal version (ASUS BW-16D1HT drive) and put it in an external enclosure and have it work? Maybe or maybe not most likely.
Yes. I have LG WH16NS40, 55, and the 60 on external drives.
If you have esata port on your computer, get the Addonics www.addonics.com search for SESCS .It is only $62.00.
I am using 2 esata enclosures on mine.
USB 3.0 enclosures do work well. get the Nexstar DX on Amazon. It is not expensive.

I may have to return my LG WH16NS60 to Fry. It does not seem to work with UHDs I get error that seems to revoke the certificate, similar to the error message using the Pioneer uhd optical drive.

So, testing many things last days. Here my report:

Laufwerksinformation
OS-Gerätename: E:
Produzent: ASUS
Produkt: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.00
Firmware-Datum: 2115-11-03 11:10:
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 1F
Highest AACS version: 63

- - Possible to read UHD-Disks, decrypting works if right key in keydb.cfg

Laufwerksinformation
OS-Gerätename: F:
Produzent: ASUS
Produkt: BW-16D1HT
Revision: 3.01
Firmware-Datum: 2117-03-31 14:26:
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 1F
Highest AACS version: 63

- - Possible to read UHD-Disks, decrypting works if right key in keydb.cfg

Laufwerksinformation
OS-Gerätename: G:
Aktuelles Profil: BD-R SRM
Produzent: ELBY
Produkt: CLONEDRIVE
Revision: 1.4
Highest AACS version: 63

- - Possible to read UHD-ISO_File, decrypting works if right key in keydb.cfg

So i can say, ASUS BW-16D1HT works in Revision 3.00 and 3.01 if right key is there...
Make ISO-File and decrypt later, also works...

Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe discs with 50 GB capacity are in the spec, but no studios are using them.
Latest MakeMKV correctly shows number of layers for an UHD disc on a main page, and there are few discs that have 3 layers.

I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that post you've quoted. I think I meant the opposite - I've corrected it. I can confirm that MakeMKV displays this info correctly. For example, both Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises correctly show as 3 layers (the disc themselves have 3 rings, which is the way to physically check), although there is something odd about both of them.

Note the info given for data capacity. It appears to be MORE than what's actually on the disc, as seen with a "dir /s" from the command line, with the feature taking up 99% of the reported space:

Code: Select all

Disc Information
Label: THE_DARK_KNIGHT
Timestamp: 2017-11-15 15:39:25
Data capacity: 81.23 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM UHD
Number of layers: 3

Code: Select all

Total Files Listed: 183 File(s) 64,525,435,475 bytes

Code: Select all

11/15/2017 01:02 PM 63,953,528,832 00030.m2ts
And... here is the same info for Dark Knight Rises, again notice the discrepancy between reported data capacity and what I believe to be the actual data on disc, but this time the reported amount is LESS:

Code: Select all

Disc Information
Label: DARK_KNIGHT_RISES
Timestamp: 2017-11-16 14:25:31
Data capacity: 87.67 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM UHD
Number of layers: 3

I bought the LG BE16NU50 from amazon and confirms it works. This is an external USB 3.0 drive with a white enclosure and a silver faceplate that says M-DISC on the bottom bezel of the faceplate.

Hi.

For those having the Asus BW-16D1HT 3.01 firmware. Could it be possible please, to have a dump of this firmware ?

To obtain it Devilscraw flasher is needed, which can be found here :

https://github.com/devilsclaw/flasher/releases

Then, open an elevated command prompt and type :

flasher -D (to display drive and drive ID)

and then

flasher -d [drive id] -l firmware.bin 6 00000000 00200000

and it should dump the current (3.0.1) firmware of your device.

Thanks in advance. :)

Am getting this error about 1/2 way through, even when I just do a backup w/o decryption:

Backing up disc into folder "S:/UHD Rips/backup/DEADPOOL"
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Error 'Scsi error - HARDWARE ERROR:TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00063.m2ts' at offset '21281832960'

DEBUG: Code 0 at <0W<vOVSs.X)9gR.Buo#:213133319
Backup failed

Get the same error in both Windows 10 and MacOS (same drive).

I also tried DVDFab, and got a read error about 1/2 way though the rip. Thinking it might have something to do with switching from the first layer to the second layer, but that's just a guess.

Also tried it with my Ultra HD "official" drive, just to see if I could do an encrypted backup, got a similar but different error:
