Kick-Ass decrypted with DeUHD not ripping in MakeMKV?

Post by etc6849 » Sat Dec 09, 2017 12:42 am

MakeMKV freezes up when trying to process Kick-Ass UHD Blu-ray folder rip.

MakeMKV also fails on Warrior (UHD Blu-ray decrypted folder too). Both have a playlist name of 00000.mpls. I'm not sure if the playlist name is of significance, but MKVToolNix multiplexes both decrypted 4k movies just fine. I would guess it is a software bug with MakeMKV?

This is how I got Kick-Ass and a few other problem 4k disc rips to work with MakeMKV. It appears the tips in this DeUHD thread are useful. One would think DeUHD would do some sort of error correction, but for whatever reason doesn't seem to be doing it.

I have backed up brand new blu-rays for years, and only had to clean one or two... Maybe the LG WH16NS60 drive I have is just really picky? I have fixed three problem backups now, so these tips really work for whatever reason.

Here are the things I tried after following the thread above:
Cleaned the entire bottom of the disc using alcohol and a cotton shirt.
Changed Windows system settings to make background processes have priority.
Changed Windows system performance settings to performance (disables Aero and other effects).
Deleted the entire cache for DeUHD (was over 9 GB for me, stored under user appdata local DeUHD folder).
Set Power Saving settings so my processor min and max are set to 100%.
Quit decrypting to folder, instead decrypted disc to iso (seems to be about 10% faster with DeUHD).

Logs indicate corrupted M2TS file. Given that DeUHD works with dumped block keys (not even unit keys) an error in a single block key means 6k of corrupted data. I wonder why mkvtoolnix handles that, do you get a visual glitch in produced file?

Thanks for the in-depth explanation :) Makes total sense.

Maybe that explains why DeUHD is so finnicky at ripping discs. I have to use a lint free cloth to clean all of my discs before ripping, and even then sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts. MakeMKV has worked perfectly on my last two attempts.

Just to note, that info is mentioned in the sticky "UHD support" thread: http://makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=16765
