I need a backup for my 28 blu Ray disk.
I will create a mkv file for each one and store it on my external 2 TB disk.
Do i need a blu ray player on my pc or it is enough the dvd player on my computer ?
What about the loss of quality converting a brand new bluray disk in mkv file ?

If you wish to rip blu-ray disc's on your PC, you will need a blu-ray drive.

DVD drives play DVDs & CDs , Blurays drives play Blurays & possibly DVDs/CDs (model dependent)

Just to be certain, by "a standalone bd player", are you referring to a so-called "tabletop" player that connects directly to your TV, or a BluRay ROM/player, that connects directly to your PC via a USB cable?

Okay just to recap everything.

1. You need a Bluray drive to rip the blurays with MakeMKV into MKV's
2. For playback you'll need something that can Play back MKV's with H264+slected Audio streams.
3. A backed up blurays is way to big to fit on one DVD, even a DVD DL (..although kung-fu panda does come close).

You can either use an internal Blu Ray drive (usually connected via SATA) or an External Blu Ray drive connected via USB, E-SATA (or possibly Firewire).

From what I can tell from the C5300, it is a Blu Ray "Player", however, you need a Blu Ray "Drive". The player you have has a drive in it, but I would discourage removing it and trying to get it to work with your PC.

There is no way around this, you need to get a Blu Ray "Drive" either internal or external
