Fps question

Post by scorpafied »

So i know a little about how fps works on bluray. Depending on country its either like 24 fps or 30 fps its shot at. Then dvd players interlace it to make it like 50-60fps.

My question however is does make mkv keep the origonal fps? And how do i know what it is?

Im using handbrake to make them a bit smaller in filesize and ive done a few in 30 fps but not sure if thats correct or not or if i should of done it in 60...

The typical framerate on Blu-ray is 23.976 fps. MakeMKV does no conversion, it only decrypts the content and writes it to the MKV file. So do not change the framerate in Handbrake or others tools like VidCoder, always keep the original fps.
Good Luck :)

What Grauhaar said...

Almost all BDs I've encountered were nominal 24fps progressive video. I have a few from one vendor that were recorded as "30fps interlaced", but they're the exception.

BD players do not necessarily output interlaced video on HDMI connections.
