Possibly - but that is not enough information to say anything for sure.

Have you read through this topic yet? http://makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15055

Hello, I am also using MakeMKV on linux.
There are other posts in this forum concerning this problem (http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic ... are#p54816), unfortunately without a solution.

On my system (slackware 14.2 32bit) if I connect an external dvd drive (usb2 sadly) then MakeMKV spits out this error:

By the way, my internal drive works flawlessly.

If it works in the internal drive but not an external, I suspect access permissions. MakeMKV has to get "full access" to a drive to get the information it needs to generate the key, and to exchange the generated key with the drive.

As long as the permissions for running MakeMKV are correct, so that it has full access to the drive, the usual reason for getting the key exchange error is that there was a read error at the beginning of loading the disk, and MakeMKV could not obtain the necessary information to generate the key.

To the original poster, sakura: Does MakeMKV create a file or link at the end of the error messages, saying it suspects a newer version of AACS protection? If so, check your MakeMKV data directory for a file that has a name starting with "MKB_v" and the name of the disk. That file should be forwarded to svq@makemkv.com for review.

Thanks Woodstock for the answer and I apologise for hijacking this thread.

Not sure if you have a specific need for using 1.9.10 but you may want to upgrade to 1.10.6. It may or may not help your reported problem but at least you will have access to latest encryption defeat and bug fixes.

I will update when I stumble upon a dvd/bluray that cannot be ripped (consider that on slackware Makemkv must be recompiled to update, which is a pain on my old hardware). Anyway thanks.
