Feature Request: Reencode to 720p

#1 Post by Stryker412 » Wed Mar 18, 2009 1:35 pm

I was just curious if there would ever be an option to downsize a 1080p movie? There is a huge thread on AVS about how to do it but it's very complicated and involves too many steps (IMO). There is definitely an audience for this type of feature.

any reencoding process is always slower than reading the disc so it makes no sense to re-encode inside MakeMKV. There are many free tools that can re-encode MKV - let's hope they become better over time.

I agree with Mike. I think MakeMKV should continue to improve upon what it is doing right now - ripping to mkv (including all the subtitles and audio streams) without "mucking with" the data. There are other apps for changing the encoding of audio, video, etc in existing mkvs - I fully expect them to improve at a pretty fast pace now that mkv is really gaining some adoption.
