How does MakeMKV separate DTS core from DTS HD-MA ?

#1 Post by abel413 » Sat Dec 17, 2016 8:03 pm

Hi,

When I rip a BluRay, MakeMKV offers both DTS-HD MA & DTS. Then it is possible to select both and to have both audio at the end.

If I extract full BluRay manually then try to remux m2ts corresponding to the movie on MKVToolNix only DTS-HD MA appears. Then I wonder how MakeMKV manages to separate both audio. I would like to know how to do that manually.

Have a look at this, maybe this will help you?

It is pointless to rip both. Only grab the DTS-MA.

If what you play it back on only supports DTS it will still play fine.

I respectfully disagree. I'd suggest each person needs to check if the higher resolution track can play on their media player, playback software, AV receiver/processor, or combination of these. I've had instances in the past with certain player/receiver combinations where the hi-rez DTS-MA track would not play and I had to revert to standard DTS. My standard is to save both high resolution and core tracks but YMMV.

In my case, my BluRay player don't play DTS HD MA so I can only play DTS.
