I've used a registered version of MakeMKV for a couple years. I haven't used it for a while and discovered it will no longer work. I tried upgrading and downloading older versions. When I open the application the application shows on the task bar and in task manager, but I cannot see the screen. When I use alt-tab I can see the screen image, but when I try to navigate to it the screen goes away. I tried a full uninstall/reboot/reinstall to no avail. I've never seen a Windows app do this. Perhaps I need a service turned on or something cleared/set in the registry? Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks
Lew
MakeMKV not working - Windows 10
Re: MakeMKV not working - Windows 10
Check your Windows settings - there are reports of recent updates turning Windows Defender back on, even after you've disabled it. Windows Defender has a history of blocking access to some MakeMKV DLL files, causing it to crash.

Re: MakeMKV not working - Windows 10
I'm also having problems with Windows 10, though different symptoms than the OP. Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd pile on to this one, but please let me know if I should start a new one.
For me, MakeMKV appears to work normally until part-way through the back-up process, where it eventually hangs / freezes. On repeated runs, it seems to hang in different locations, even on the same disc. Prior to the hang, it appears to create valid output (i.e. a partial .mkv file). When it hangs, there is no apparent error reported, in the log messages or otherwise. When this happens, I have to manually kill the related processes (GUI and makemkvcon) using Task Manager.
I'm not using a third-party AV software, and I've disabled Windows Defender's "real-time protection" feature. I also added the various MakeMKV executables to Windows Defender's exclusion list. No change in behavior (it still hangs).
I've seen this hang on every Blu-ray disc I've tried. It's happened with multiple brand new discs (inserted into BD-ROM straight from packaging), and one disc that I'd previously backed-up successfully using Windows 7. Interestingly, under Windows 10, I was able to successfully back up a DVD disc without issue.
I started seeing this issue when I upgraded to a new desktop PC running Windows 10. Previously, I was using a relatively old desktop PC running Windows 7, and this setup was rock solid for years. I'm using the same internal SATA BD-ROM drive (an LG UH12NS30 which I removed from the old PC, and installed in the new one).
Any ideas of things I can try? I've considered using a Windows 7 VM to try to work around the problem, but I'd really love to get my native Windows 10 configuration working.
