Just installed the Pioneer BDR-205 in my 2006 Mac Pro 10.6.3. I've tried 3 different BD's and I get the same error with each disc (this error is without any other installed disc drives). It fails to open the disc. Would greatly appreciate any advice!

A very generic error that happens for no reason. Is drive usable by itself, can you copy any files from BD disc in finder?KalebM wrote:Optical drive "BD-R-SRM PIONEGR B@-VW B@R/205 1.06" opened in OS access mode.

Re: Error reading any BD on Pioneer BDR-205
Good point, the OS thinks that every disc (BD or DVD) I put in is blank, so no, I can't copy files from it, though there is now an "Untitled BD.fpbf" place folder in my desktop. Toast tells me how much space is free on an actual BD movie but still thinks it's blank. And sadly, the only CDROM I have handy gives me "Cannot read" error or just spins. *sigh* So, even though the system recognizes the BD model, sounds like there's a clear hardware disconnect? While this is a SATA drive, I used a SATA/PATA adapter to get it to connect with my 2006 Mac Pro.
I'll see what I can find elsewhere for the hardware, but I do appreciate your help.

Re: Error reading any BD on Pioneer BDR-205
After further experimenting, it seems that this drive has no problems recognizing my audio CD at startup, but any time I put in a DVD or BD, it thinks they are blank.
I don't see any support coming from Pioneer and I'm surprised OWC is still selling this drive for Mac Pro owners. (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Pioneer/BDR205BKMP/)
I've seen a couple people here use this with their Mac's without a problem (& a couple with problems) - is it just because I'm not connecting directly to the SATA connection?

shows my pioneer at firmware 1.04 and it works fine recognizes and burns DVDs, have yet to test burning and recognizing blu ray discs however. Might want to check it out.
the pioneer site has 1.08 for windows, can't find the firmware updates for mac os x but here is another thread of another forum FYI

Re: Error reading any BD on Pioneer BDR-205
I've tested blu-ray and my pioneer bdr 205 works okay so far.
burning speeds have exceeded 4x on 4x media so I can't complain.

2.66 core 2 quad q9400 intel
4 gb 1333 ddr3 ram
hackintosh
pioneer firmware: 1.04
I can't figure out why mine works and why others won't work. sorry, good luck.
