Lucky Star from Funimation, discs 1 and 2 each have 10 episodes on them. The playlists for those are 00009 thru 00018 and each points to 1 m2ts file/segment map 00014.m2ts thru 00023.m2ts.
Playlist 00008 contains all 10 episodes and also adds the episode credits, which are in separate m2ts files. The segment map for it looks like this: 14,48,15,49,16,50,17,51,18,52,19,52,20,54,21,55,22,56,23,57,25,10
The problem is that playlist 8 is being dropped with a bunch of "equal to title" messages. These appear to refer to individual segment maps within the playlist, such as "00008.mpls(2) is equal to title 00010.mpls".
How do I get makemkv to not drop this playlist?

Suggest sending the information asked for in the FAQ listed in my signature to support@makemkv.com to look at.
I've got no specific advice on that title - I elected to stick with the DVD version. However, in general, Funimation's single-episode files contain the credits as well.

Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
I found another of these. The new Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya set does the same thing. Playlist 8 has the m2ts numbers for the 10 episodes (14-23), each followed by the m2ts numbers for the credits (48-57), but each of the 10 episode pieces of playlist 8 are being dropped because they are supposedly duplicates.
I submitted an error report when I first ran into this, but haven't heard back.

Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
Bluray or DVD version? I just ripped the entire BD Haruhi series (really liked Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan!) without issue back in September...
Must be the DVD version, because the BD had Haruhi-chan as episodes 1-25 in one file, 26-38 in another.

Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
This was the blu ray ultimate collector's edition version. Disc 1 with episodes 1-10.
Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
OK, so it's not the Haruhi-chan disks... Sorry
The log shows this:
Titles #0-9 are the 10 episodes. The title that was skipped (00008.mpls) is a multi-episode play list, which does contain the same information as in the individual episode files. It is what is played if you "Play All" in the BD menu.
It doesn't look anything is "missing"; the individual episodes are there, with titles and credits, and the match the DVD copies I have from the original release (just more pixels).

Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
There's the problem. 00008.mpls references the 10 m2ts files for the 10 titles, but it also references 10 other m2ts files that contain the credits for those episodes. You see how the "skipped" list refers to (2), (4), (6), etc.? The credits are in positions (1), (3), (5), etc.Title 00008.mpls is equal to title 00009.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(2) is equal to title 00010.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(4) is equal to title 00011.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(6) is equal to title 00012.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(8) is equal to title 00013.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(10) is equal to title 00014.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(12) is equal to title 00015.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(14) is equal to title 00016.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(16) is equal to title 00017.mpls and was skipped
Title 00008.mpls(18) is equal to title 00018.mpls and was skipped
If you want to see what is in playlist 00008 and missing from the individual episodes, set the minimum title time to 25 seconds and extract title 11, which would then contain the credits for episode 1.
Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
OK, I see what you mean - The original DVD credits incorporated the English in place of the Japanese within main episode, and Funimation decided to keep the untranslated Japanese credits, and create a separate 30-second set of credits in English, which is why I never missed it.
I remember Mike posting a way to tell MakeMKV to NOT skip anything it thought was a duplicate. The manual DVD mode can do that for DVDs, but I remember there being a flag that bypassed just the dupe check, and that it worked for BD as well. But my google-fu is inadequate right now to find it.
For now, follow the procedure outlined in the FAQ link in my signature and send the information to support@makemkv.com for Mike to look at. Have him refer to this topic as well.

Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
I submitted a problem report when I first had the problem on the Lucky Star discs. I included the PLAYLIST and CLIPINF files, the makemkv log output and whatever else was requested. Is there anything else I need to do? Does he normally look at problems within a certain period of time and would I expect to hear back at some point?
Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
Did anything ever come of this?
I've got an indie Blu Ray (The Gamers: Hands of Fate) where I suspect the correct play list for the extended version is getting dropped as a duplicate.

That thread doesn't tell you how to do exactly what you want, but it does offer a workaround of sorts. You'll have to look at your log and figure out which playlist MakeMKV is preferring over the one you want.

Re: Playlist that is not equal is being dropped
My personal workaround was that I discovered the m2ts files that were lost when the supposedly duplicate playlist was dropped were also in separate titles all by themselves. I modified my script that sits on top of makemkvcon to set the minimum title length to 0, extract those separate titles and then use mkvmerge to attach the credits title to the episode title.
For example, on that Haruhi Suzumiya disc, with --minlength set to 0, title 0 contains episode 1 and title 17 contains the credits for episode 1.
No idea if that method would apply to all discs, but I haven't run into any anime discs I can't handle since then.
