Is this problem related to MakeMKV or to the Blu Ray Disc?

#1 Post by RarefiedAir24 » Thu Apr 15, 2010 11:15 am

I'm trying to convert my National Treasure 2 blu ray..

Everytime I run it through MakeMKV it places an MKV file on my desktop BUT when I go to feed it to Handbrake, Handbrake is saying "No Valid Source Found"?

That's the first time I ever experienced that message..

Is this caused' by the new 1.5.4 version of MakeMKV?

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Hello, yes, I tried playing the file in VLC and it did play.

I just tried converting it with MakeMKV again and again I get the same result when trying to feed to Handbrake. "No Valid File Source Found". But again, if I open it with VLC it does play...

I'm completely baffeled...

Hi!

Which are you trying to get MakeMKV to do for you?:

1) Create a FULL disc BluRay backup copy, or

2) Create a movie-only .MKV file

Set,

My end result is to convert my blu-ray collection so that I can stream it to my AppleTv's. I have 2 AppleTVs in the house, one in the living room, one in my office..

So, far I have converted 4 of my blu-rays using MakeMKV which creates a MKV file of the movie, then I send that to Handbrake which in turn I use the AppleTV preset which creates an end result file that I can add to my iTunes library that the AppleTV will recognize for streaming..

And this has worked on my previous blu-rays, but I don't know if it's since upgrading or if it's because of this one blu-ray, handbrake isn't accepting the produced MKV that MakeMKV creates.

MakeMKV creates the end result MKV fine, I can open it with VLC and it will play fine, Handbrake keeps saying "No Valid File Source Found". It's not like Handbrake starts to convert it and crashes. It doesn't even detect it! which has me confused.

If Handbrake would crash during the convert process, I could say it's maybe an audio track or something.. but when I click on Handbrake and add source and select the MKV file it just says "No Valid File Source Found"..

And yes, I only want the Movie, I don't need the "FULL disc" as I already own the blu ray so I don't need to backup the whole disc, I just want the movie so I can stream it..

I'd set aside this one BluRay disc for the time being - and revisit it if the same anomaly occurs going forward with any of the other BluRays in your collection...

Wellllll, I think I figured it out... It's currently going through Handbrake right now, but apparently, there's like 8 different Audio tracks ranging from English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Thai, Korean, etc,etc..

I deselected all Audio and Subtitles except for English, created my MKV and Handbrake is liking it so far..about half-way through the Handbrake process, hopefully Handbrake won't crash now..

Hello,

Any followup to this post? I am running into the same problem with Handbrake where it is unable to load the file. I am trying to convert my Blu-ray disks to .m4v so that I can stream them through FreeAgent Theater. If disabling all other audio properties worked for you, how were you able to do it in handbrake before actually loading the file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

@upcarrotm

Hi!

Deselect the undesired audiostreams and subtitle streams from within MakeMKV...

I have an almost exact problem 1.5.5 running under ubuntu 9.10 64bit with makemkvcon.

I'm using the backup function to create a copy on my hard drive. From that point I'm trying to use handbrakecli to rip the m2ts file directly. I get the same "No Valid Source Found". If I the use makemkvcon to then make an mkv file from that backup and feed that mkv file to handbrakecli it works... sort of... I get A LOT of DCA sync error/dca sync ok errors.

If I try and open the m2ts file in VLC I get:

Code: Select all

main error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `undf'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Hi!
I'm using the backup function to create a copy on my hard drive.
Perhaps too obvious a question but, did you set (checkmark) the "backup" selection for "Decrypt"?

I'm using the command line "makemkvcon" I believe I read somewhere that "decrypt" is the default. I could be wrong, it's bound to happen eventually.

Which brings me to another question, where are all the command line switches, etc documented?

Backup options:
--decrypt
Decrypt stream files during backup. Default: no decryption.

(However, under the GUI, "Decrypt" is set as the default.)
