Help: having trouble ripping today

Post by IanForber »

Hope someone can help. I bought a bunch of blu rays yesterday but having trouble ripping them.

The 3-movie box set of the latest Star Trek films: got the fine to rip but the other two won't. Likewise, Avengers: Age of Ultron and X-Men Apocalypse.

I'm using the latest download of Make MKV and an external Samsung BD drive attached to a 2008 Macbook Pro. In each case I get error reports like the following:

Error 'Scsi error - NOT READY:LOGICAL UNIT IS IN PROCESS OF BECOMING READY' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00326.m2ts' at offset '0'
Error 'Scsi error - NOT READY:LOGICAL UNIT IS IN PROCESS OF BECOMING READY' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00326.m2ts' at offset '0'

Any ideas?

Not ready errors can come from several sources. The most common is disks that are not clean - the drive is "not ready" because it is still trying to get valid data from the disk.

If this happens on a variety of disks (BD and DVD, if your drive does both), it can be in the hardware. When was the last time your system was reset? Not just restarted - power-off reset, which will force the drive and motherboard to "get reacquainted" with each other.

HOWEVER.... there is one that can happen because the activation key in MakeMKV is not up-to-date... But there is not enough of the log present to say if that is the case here. This only applies if you're using the beta key, rather than a purchased key, and you should have gotten an error during start-up.

If it is, setting your system DATE back to, say, the 25th of November will let it work. The system date can be reset after MakeMKV starts.

Update.

It was the external drive. Bought a new one and now everything is working OK. Thanks for the suggestion though.
