I am new to the Board and currently on trial with MakeMKV.
I have a couple of 3D movies which I would like to transfer (losless) to MKV. In the past I've tried the Ripper Option of a "certain Software with a Monkey Icon" (I'm not sure if it's allowed to say the name) but each time I tried to convert 3D movies my sound wasn't synchonous anymore - no idea why.
So I made a research and found MakeMKV. My first impression was great, Surround Sound remains in the file, 3D is ripped losless.
Even if the software seems to be pretty simple in use, I followed the recommendation on http://movie-tips-review.blogspot.de/20 ... ll-hd.html
Therefore I activated the MVC checkbox at "Video" to get a real losless copy.
My first file was more than 30GBs so i thought everything went fine.
I had a look into MediaInfo and it also looked great:
Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format-Profil : Stereo High@L4.1 / High@L4.1
MultiView_Count : 2
First I've tested the file on my PC using VLC but this was my first disappointment... The movie seemed to be 2D. OK, quick research, obviously if MVC is active the resulting file is not SBS or top/bottom, due to the losless transfer, it's framepacked like a real physical BR Disc. And VLC seems to be overwhelmed with this. My mood was getting cheerful once again and i decided to make some further tests. First I took this BR Disc into the BR Player and watched the beginning without glasses to recognize how "strong" the 3D effect is causing shifts, as a comparsion.
To avoid any LAN bandwith issues I moved the file on an USB stick and inserted it to my LG49UB830V, hopefully it starts right away with the 3D prompt to eliminate all my doubts. I started the movie but it was 2D

I pressed the 3D button and took all available modes (This picture is from google, so ignore the PS3 background, I just want to show the LGs 3D Options http://bilder.hifi-forum.de/medium/7618 ... 290497.jpg My TV got Option 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 6 / 7, Option 5 is not there for me btw) but nothing happend.
SBS and T/B doesn't work at all, but this was pretty clear since my file seems to be framepacked. But even the other ones didn't help. OK, 2D --> 3D worked, or let's say: It did something like that. I had a 2D view converted to 3D, the 3D effect and the shift between the 2 pictures was.. i don't know 10% of the original one.
OK, can someone maybe help me? Did I misconfigure something? Is my TV not able to read the files properly? How can I rip 3D BRs to 3D MKV and ensure that...
... real 3D is active
... the Surround sound remains
... the transfer was losless to avoid any quality - loss?
Thanks and have a nice weekend
