Issue with Star Trek TNG Season 3, Disc 1, Episode 1

I'm getting an error ripping the first episode of this disc. I tried playing it in my BluRay player and there didn't appear to be any issues so I suppose I can't try to get a replacement disc. Can someone tell me if these errors are physical issues with the disc or something else?

Just because it will play in a device that is programmed to ignore errors doesn't mean it doesn't have a problem.

First try cleaning the disk. A lot of disks I've received this year have had some sort of chemical film on them that made them difficult to read unless they were washed first. The errors would move around, depending on which drive I was ripping in, but they always failed at some point.

If that doesn't fix it, request a replacement disk - I haven't had a vendor refuse to replace a disk I wasn't able to read.

I'm making the assumption that you're using an internal SATA drive to read this. Some USB drives will have issues with power when the disk starts spinning fast, but the first episode is not usually one that will be out where the disk spins fast.

I have cleaned it, first with a microfiber cloth but now with dish detergent and microfiber. It seems to fail at different locations even in the same drive.

It is an internal SATA drive under Windows 10. I ripped every other disc in the set without any issues though some ripped very slowly.

When I contact the vendor do I just say it won't play or do I say it won't rip to my media player? I want to be honest but not too honest .

I just wanted to make sure this wasn't some issue that an updated SVQ (is that right) wouldn't correct.

If the failures occur at different locations, you MIGHT be able to increase the retry count ( Preferences->IO ) and get by.

I had an issue with a disk a month ago. Contacted the vendor and said, "Disk 2 failed to read episodes 1 and 3 in three different players. How can we get it replaced so that I can watch all of the series?" I had a bit more trouble on that one than usual, since I had received mine 3 weeks before the release date, so I couldn't get the replacement until it was officially released, but they took care of it.

If it's a problem with copy protection of some kind (including BD+), you should get a different progression of errors. SCSI/POSIX errors are almost always a disk issue.
