Dolby TrueHD & DTS-MA only encode as PCM

Post by inflate » Fri Sep 16, 2016 5:18 pm

Starting about 3 months ago, everything that I make, Dobly TruHD & DTS-MA are getting encoded as PCM only. That is to say, when playing back on device (say my Oppo-103) that I know can handle these formats (because the Blu-ray I just encoded from, has THESE codecs) they show up as PCM on my Denon 3311ci. All of the lesser Dolby/DTX codecs, show up as such on my receiver when I play these files when I browse using the OPPO's built in network (SAMBA) file browser. Just wondering if something has changed recently.

What do you have in your default profile for conversions? If I remember correctly, the profiles provided with MakeMKV only convert to FLAC, not variations on PCM.

Are you certain the file's audio is actually encoded in PCM rather than the receiver just saying so? Have you tried checking the file with MediaInfo to be certain (https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo)? Could the Oppo be converting TrueHD and DTS-MA files to LPCM? I know my streamer has this option.
