Drive idiosyncrasies

#1 Post by TwoMetreBill » Thu Aug 25, 2016 6:45 pm

The Hobbit, The Battle of the Five Armies: this is the original, not the extended edition of the movie.
Windows 10 Pro with the shareware version of MakeMKV.

Two Blu-ray drives in my machine:
1. Pioneer BDR208D (about 2 years old)
2. Pioneer BDR209D (about 2 months old)

With AnyDVD and Handbrake, only the first 52-54 seconds could be converted in either drive. Often Blu-ray disks will fail in the older drive and work in the newer one.

The reverse is happening with this Hobbit disk and MakeMKV. Worked fine with the BDR208D, will be upgrading to the fully licensed version shortly.

Perhaps I need to build a Blu-ray tower with one each of several brands of drives?

Regards,
Bill
